I know size counts to a certain extent when it comes to speakers but I'm no audiophile and aesthetically I prefer satellites up high in the corners of the room... though I do like good sound. I'd be interested in what you audio experts think are my options for a decent 5.1 setup without going for floor standers?

Define decent?
$450?
$3000?

There's a range of options out there, and deciding on what way to go will depend on:
Intended use : music / movies / gaming.
Size of the room.
Budget.

The larger set of Kef Eggs KHT3005 or the B&W MT series were both pretty good sounding but as Dunnersfella says it totally depends on your price range and intended use, Both sets I have mentioned are around the $3k mark from memory.

Wouldnt bother with any of the HTIB, JBL, cheaper tannoys etc unless you are restricted to the bottom end of the price scale.

My opinions are purely my own and are not at all those of my employer 2degrees.

Cheers, I don't really have a budget as such, It comes down to bang for buck for me... I wouldn't spend an extra $1000 for 1% better if you know what I mean... Room is slightly smaller than 5m x 6m and will be used for a mixture of music/movies

KEF Eggs get my vote. When i bought mine, the set cost around $2500-$3000. Now its only $1200 and will most likely be cheaper on Easter sales....

JB Hifi has them, among others:
