I have been sitting this problem for a couple months.

I would like to hook up the audio between my Toshiba Dynadock 3.0 and old Creative Inspire 5700 amp.

It is current using the analog front and rear ports via 3.5mm cables, a sort of 4.0 config.

I would like to use the digital inputs of coaxial or optical to get the full 5.1 if possible?

Anybody have any ideas? Appreciate any suggestions.

This is the back of the dynadock:

The Dock doesn't have Optical Out but your HDMI will carry Audio Over it most likely.

You can get something like this:

HDMI (Dock) -> Switch (HDMI)
HDMI (Switch) -> Monitor
Optical (Switch) -> Optical AMP (Or you can use coax Switch -> coax AMP)

USB sound car with optical output is what I would do. Sometimes heaphone/speaker jacks double as an optical out port, just check the specs of your dock. I know my MacBook Pro has this feature.

Great idea's, many thanks.

Will have a look around and see which would work best for my setup.
