Where can I buy a simple volume control unit? Have 2 Bose outside speakers fed from an amplifier and the 15 year old volume control unit housed in an external box has croaked?! Have searched online but cannot track down anything in NZ. Thanks

I've seen them in big-box stores, I've seen them in specialist audio stores...
Is it situated inside or outside?
Niles is the standard, Speakercraft is another unit made in the same factory as Niles.

If you're putting it outside, don't waste your time with the indoor variant from Jaycar.
Spend a little more on something like a Niles or Speakercraft volume control that is actually designed for outdoor usage. Rusting / dis-colouring / not working = all the things that can go South on outdoor speaker volume controls, so it's worth getting one designed to do the job IMHO.
