I need a 3 meter 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable for my computer speakers. I got one from trademe from moderndeals for $3, it was awful - it crackled and buzzed, and was much higher resistance than the cable that came with my speakers.

Where can you get decent cables without paying the extortionate prices of places like dick smith and harvey norman? Preferably in NZ, but ebay or other sites are an option. I often buy from ebay when I'm not in a rush. I don't want to make one myself either, this time.

Thanks, good tip. They don't have 3m, just 2 and 5, so may have to ebay it this time.

If you don't mind waiting for the shipping time, http://dx.com/ 's cable range are surprisingly high quality. I've ordered HDMI, DVI to HDMI and RCA to 3.5MM. All cables are of high quality, especially when you look at the price.

1. For one-offs where it's not worth faffing around with shipping charges etc, I typically go to Jaycar. Either buy the pre-made cable or, if they don't have exactly what I want and it's simple, buy the plugs and some wire and break out the trusty soldering iron.

(1A if it's a standard item and I am really in a hurry, sometimes Dick Smith - but of late their range is pathetic and their pricing is extortionate).

2. For multiple cables and bits of associated kit, I tend to use monoprice.com. The pricing and range are very good, but last time I used them the shipping was $US 30 minimum, so you should aggregate up the purchase and buy a few things at once.

I would normally suggest Jaycar but looking at their website they only have 5m also.
The warehouse http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catalog/product/Philips-Dubbing-Cable-3M?SKU=1374385
At least if the cable is no good they will take it back.
or surplustronics

You could also try http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/ I have used them for stereo cables and find them very good to deal with.
