I've got an oldish (10-12yrs) NEC CRT TV that's decided to start playing silly buggers with me (or my wife to be precise).  Apparently, a couple of seconds after being turned on, the telly switches back off to standby.  She's tried doing it through the remote and manually on the telly itself.  Doing a complete power-off and on doesn't seem to help either.  No changes have been made to the home theatre setup.

As much as I like my daughter having an afternoon without Fox News, has anyone else encoutered something like this before?

The closest thing thats happened to me is a plasma just randomnly turning off (not often but often enough!). The only thing I could put it down to is maybe a saftey, whereby it gets too hot or a massive power surge?? I'm really not too sure. Interesting that it turns of straight away?? Tried a different remote?

We had the same problem with our mitsubishi black diamond tv. I eventually figured if you hit it on the side on the right spot it turns on and when it heats up it stays on. I tried opening and cleaning it , that didn't work. Now we've got a samsung bordeux lcd
