I have tried both and prefer xbmc to integrate with WMC.
The one thing I dont like with mediabrowser is it doesnt support the music library.  I did try the music add on for the 30 day trial but it wouldnt use my music as the tags are not correct format. So I would have to work out how the tags are supposed to be. I had just copied the the music over years ago .

I prefer xbmc as I can use my music with that.   It integrates with wmc  well but as I have a few computers each one has to separately scrape the movie and tv show metadata which takes a while with each one.  Is there a way I can export the metadata to my WHS2011 where all my media is so I only have to do the main scrape from internet when I update content then the others can get the data from the home server.

Or would it be better to use Mediabrowser 3 and install server on that and the mediabrowser classic client into wmc.

I am not wanting to sync the different machines so they know which has been watched on another or anything like that.

I’m using XBMC and manage movie metadata with Ember Media Manager (it will also do tv show but I don’t bother XBMC has this sorted).

I also use MP3Tag for missing music metadata

blackjack17: This is what you want I think

XBMC with sql

+1 - this is what I am running and it works like a charm - the only thing you need to be careful of is if you have any 3rd party apps that automatically update the XBMC library when something is added you need to ensure only one of your XBMC devices is updated, otherwise you can end up with duplicate entries in the library as both XBMC instances attempt to update the library at the same time.

i'm using mediabrowser 3 with tv, movies, and music (streaming music via the windows phone app right now in fact!)

have the mediabrowser classic in my WMC and that works great - lots of nice updates in the new versions

Just been looking more at mediabrowser 3 and am now leaning to it more. Mainly due to the fact of Android and Windows Phone integration.  That is a nice touch and I especially like that they support windows phone.

medibrowser 3 looks more to my liking that mediabrowser 2 I tried

Plex could be an option too - it is a fork of XBMC and handles the clien / server side of things, so everything is kept in sync

It's also got mobile apps for WP, android & ios which can sync media for offline use on the device.

before I had my whs 2011 setup, I had tried plex but it didnt have the metadata like xbmc or mediabrowser and it didnt have the wmc integration.
What I am trying to do now that I have the home server set up is to boot my htpc to wmc and then I can watch tv or record tv and also watch movies tv shows or listen to music all from wmc.  Movies and music etc are all stored on the home server.  Also like to be able to do same apart from tv watching and recording on my laptop.

hi again, been trying with xbmc and mediabrowser 3.

In mediabrowser 2 and xbmc I get movie and tv series covers or posters.   In mediabrowser 3 I only get a frame from the movie as the poster.   Do i have to have a plug in to get the posters.

The other thing can I install mediabrowser 3 server on my WHS 2011 where all my media is and then use mediabrowser classic on the clients.  The reason being the server is on 24/7.  At the moment I have been testing on a laptop which I dont have on 24/7 and dont want to.
If I can get the posters like a dvd cover on my movie and tv shows I will be happy.  In other aspects mediabrowser 3 is a big imrovement on version 2.   I like how it integrates much better with windows media center than xbmc

i have posters for movies showing up.  dont think i did anything special to get them apart from specifying the folder collection type as movies when adding.  all the metadata checkboxes were already ticked afaik.  the ones i have screens for are the ones where the metadata obviously wasnt found.

both DVD discs and Blu-Ray discs are showing up OK
