Hi

Saw this on TV news  the other night and looks very promising for the pure audiophile.

http://www.ponomusic.com/

" PonoMusic takes all the musical goodness of artist-approved studio master recordings and puts it at your fingertips. Nothing has changed, but everything is gained, with resolutions from 6 times that of an mp3 to more than 30 times that of an mp3, depending on just how great the recording quality was on that original “high resolution” master. "

Founded by Neil Young
I am keen but depends on price as well.  To be launched later in the year.

Dunnersfella  what do you think !

cheers

Wow, sounds like, oh wait, a CD player!

It would be nice if they are talking about 24-bit 96-192KHz sampled audio though.

I have 'golden ears' and worked on audio editing and audio processing in broadcasting. I only purchase CD's to listen to music and have never heard a better sound than off a multi-tracking reel to reel professional analogue setup.

Hopefully 24-bit will come as close to this as possible and that this is what they are leaning towards. A few recording engineers I know are happy with 24-bit digital. Except for one flaw, one of them can't stand nice dynamic  music, they process it beyond a brick wall to make all their albums as loud as their competition.

It sounds like digital audio is going back to what it can achieve rather than what money it can save by compromising on storage.

I was looking at donating to the Kickstarter campaign to be fair... but I don't know when I'd actually use it?
My stereo already plays hi-res files, my turntable gives me my analogue fix and my car stereo is crappy enough to not make me want to listen to it...
I don't listen to music while working, so, all in all, unless I'm travelling I won't really get a chance to listen to a Pono. And even then, if I do I'll be in a plane, where the ambient noise destroys the sound quality all together.
