My Sony Bravia TV (sorry, haven't got the model in front of me), which is just over two years old, has started to show horizontal lines on the screen.  I think it's a fault in the display itself as I can see them on all channels and all inputs (i.e. TV, Freeview set-top-box connected via HDMI, Wii connected via composite cables).

The lines run horizontally across the entire width of the display and are about three fifths of the way down the screen.  They show up most when displaying solid colours in that area of the display.

I've tried to take some photos of them with the lines marked with red rectangles to show you where to look:

Does anyone know if this is a common fault with LCD TV's?  I think the TV only came with a 1 year warranty, what are my chances of getting it replaced under the Consumer Guarantees Act?

I bought it from Dick Smith.

I'd say pretty good chance, but you will probably have to 'fight' DSE to do it.

First port of call will be them - tell them from the outset you want a remedy under the CGA - note, they do not have to replace it or refund it straight away - it is their choice - refund, repair, replace. Be firm, and stand your ground. Probably best to go straight to a manager to stop you having to repeat yourself. Be prepared to be without a TV whilst it is repaired.

A quick search on "Sony LCD horizontal banding" does not bode well it seems...

I've just Googled that as well to see what I can find.  Many of the reports seem to be for flickering lines, but mine don't flicker.  Also many of those reports say they're seeing ghosting as well, which again I don't have.

I think I'll try a few trouble-shooting things (restore to factory defaults, etc) and then I'll call Sony and see what they say.  If I get nowhere then I'll approach Dick Smith and ask them to sort it under the CGA.

I'd go straight back to DSE. It's their responsibility under the CGA to sort it out with Sony.

Yeah maybe you're right, it was just that I read that a few models had known problems and that Sony were replacing them.
