Hi,

Just fiddling around with my pioneer vsx 920 to find the best sounding way of listening to my iPod.
I've gone to M1 memory 6 which Has all the eq,reverb etc turned off.
I've set my front speaker's to large with no sub and also put the eq on my iPod to none.
Basically trying to get it to work like a 2 channel amp so the only adjustment's I can make are bass and treble.
I think this sound's better, more natural? Like a big mini system kind of.
Anyone else had a fiddle around with their AVRs to get a more 'musical' sound?

Thanks

Nik

in the past when all I had was an AVR I used direct mode which bypasses all of the sound enhancements in the AVR by passing the source straight through to the speakers - not all AVRs have this though.

Now I have a separate stereo amp that has a power amp mode so my AVR uses the front pre-outs to the stereo amp when watching movies and all of my 2 channel sources are plugged into the stereo amp.

Yeah mine has direct mode but it sounds pretty crappy with it on,not sure why.
I just put mine on stereo mode.
Would love to get a separate 2 channel amp but have no free cash at the moment.

Ive got a Pioneer VSX series as well, I run through the MCACC setting to get a base line config , then tweaked the following - Speaker size
- Sub woofer cross over
- Bass and treble setting

- Speaker Levels

I use "Direct mode" ie 2.1 Im sure I could get into EQ settings and manually do things, but the MCACC gets pretty close to what I would call a nice sound.
My favorite TEST songs are   - Expresso Guitar "Englishman in New York" - Enigma Sadness Reprise + Principals of Lust - Pink Flloyd - Dark Side of The Moon

If you can get all those tracks to sound right without adjusting settings, then pretty much all genres will sound good.

Yeah I just use my speakers with no sub.
They are wharfedale diamond 10.6s and go really well.
I crank it up to around -18 and get them humming !
