My receiver keeps dropping sound.  Occasionally when I power it on I get picture but no sound on any input not even tuner or internet radio

Still passes through HDMI sound and picture when in standby.

Powering off and on seems to eventually fix the problem.

Any suggestions?

Mike

This is a very common issue relating to the HD board. When the issue presents itself many different things can go wrong. Onkyo are aware of the fault and will replace the part for free, you just have to either install it yourself or pay someone to do it.

Thanks.  Spoke to Oknyo agent.  Sounds like part will be free and I will have to pay for freight and labour.  OK deal for a ~5 year old receiver.

There is a Youtube video showing how to replace the faulty capacitors on the board, but I don't have the skills to do that.

There is another open thread on this same topic. Onkyo have extended the warranty to 2018 so you shouldn't have to pay a thing despite what Avalon say. - Either JBHiFi or I will be fighting that shortly as my Onkyo is also away getting the same thing repaired.
