Anyone got a good recommendation for headphones around the $100 mark which can be worn with a bike helmet and will stay put?

Anything that goes in the ear (even just the outside bit) is a no-no as my ears get sore very easily.

Must allow ambient sound, should be rain/sweat proof.

Open to bluetooth or traditional, don't need a microphone (but that'd be a plus)

There's options on Aliexpress et al but it seems like all the mainstream manufacturers are going with in ear

I once had some Philips ones that were good, but you are right its all going in-ear.

Can you tolerate ear buds, as there are a few options still available?

Unfortunately even earbuds I have always found very uncomfortable.

If you get in ear monitor types, they will fit a lot better than the cheap apple type earbuds. They will come with a variety of ends and some are isolating, some let sound thru typically.

Only $150 locally ... might be an option, thanks

Have tried several types of IEM, short of custom ($$$) and all have caused me pain within a short time.

In case anyone is following along, the motorola s305 headphones are doing the job great so far - they weigh practically nothing, barely interfere with airflow, and fit comfortably with sunglasses and helmet.  You can completely hear what's going on around you and at the same time others cannot hear much of your music.  Phone calls (and voice commands) work well too, nobody seems to have had trouble hearing me at all and they are crystal clear.  Honestly I can't think of how these could be better for what I wanted them for.  I've found myself using them at my desk too, or for long phone calls where I need my hands free.

I agree Dan. That form factor is great for running / cycling etc. I can hear what is going on around me and they stay put on my head. I am amazed there are not more of those on the market.

I use a pair of AX-610's from Aliexpress.

It seems like there used to be and most of them have gone to in ear :/ which sucks if you have sensitive or unusually shaped ears
