TwoSeven: I have a an old Yamaha one pre-hdmi and apart from the fact it feels like it weighs 10 tons when I have to move it, it has always put out good sound and been reliable.

I am thinking of upgrading it to something lighter one day, probably to a demon unit with hdmi 2.2 and wireless features.

The reason it puts out good sound is BECAUSE its heavy = nice big power supply inside

I'm on the same search, plus looking at a 5.1 speaker system to go with it. I'm interested in a few Denon models but notice no replies from Denon owners? Are they still a recommended brand?

I've been reading a bit about the Denon AVR X1200W. It seems to have all the specs needed for the near future of 4K, and some reasonable deals at the shops mentioned earlier in the thread.

Have been fairly happy with an old Onkyo... If budget allowed I'd be out auditioning a few different ones but would happily buy another Onkyo for the right price. Dunno what the Penrose location is like as last time I went was when they were in Newmarket but if your gonna drop that kinda cash and you've got the time might as well check out http://www.avalon.co.nz/ as well as the previous mentioned.

Enjoy the journey!!

I have a Denon and love it but to be fair it is well above the $1200 threshold so not fair for me to chime in.

The AVRX1200 is the old model, the AVRX1300 is the new version - and I've already seen it GUTTED in an e-mail out from one Auckland store. So yeah, it could be a possibility.

i think ive mentioned the Onkyo TX-NR646  in the  home theater thread few days ago brought it for 800 down from 1200 does  atmos and dts X sound can do a 5.1.2 sound setup

there's various other ways the menu lets you set it up ,must i am impressed by it  ,i cant put the sound over 53 goes to 100max i think (the cups will fall out of the china cabinet otherwise ) , crisp  and loud

sound and good bass .....as usually with home theater, sky is the limit and your wallet.for the amount of money you pay for it its is a good bargain

Great deal and good purchase.. That deal's been up for about a week now. Seems like a very long day!

Hah, was a good strategy on Avalon's part then, got approval from the financial controller under urgency! Win\win :-)

I'm also looking. I have a Onkyo TxNR609 that has had HDMI repair twice and just started playing up again so I'm over it!. Had  my old Yamaha RXV590 in the shed sitting on the dryer getting all sorts of crap over it and its still going strong - also used it in house while 609 was getting fixed and thought it sounded better with music, so am pretty keen on a new Yamy.

Set up is 7.1 and would like zone 2 pre out that plays digital source . Was looking at RXV681 on a deal for $1188 but that has finished.

Just not sure what else to look at.
