Analog in auckland was letterboxed somewhere between what tv3 is and tv1 is when I looked, can see the sides of 4:3 content on prime on my crt, which I cant on 2 and 3, but not the 1" that tv1 has.

Wish they would just do a normal center cut rather then this miniscule letterboxing carryon. Disappointing to see the news was not 16:9

sbiddle: Can somebody confirm what format Prime's analogue format is in? Is it true 16:9 or 4:3 center cut?

I just realised that TCL are actually transmitting Prime as 16:9 over their analogue network, it's a shame that they can't transmit all their channels like this!




Switching error.. Has now been corrected.  The channel should be 4:3 (which now it is).

The problem with the analogue network is you have to cater for people with 4:3 TV's.  There is no letterboxing
on Analogue set top boxes.  Digital is more flexible.

I really need to find some way to scam them into giving me one of those sky boxes that are locked to only prime, not likly since I can get an almost perfect picture with a paperclip ;(

Seems that with the lack of it on dvb-t and not being on sat in FTA, and that you cant get a box unless your outside of the UHF area you are screwed if you want to watch it in widescreen without shelling out $50 a month to sky.

So much for FTA IMO.

I think you can get the "FTA" channels from sky for under $20 per month.  Although they don't advertise it, I know people that had bad VHF/UHF reception and this was a solution (also you can get the PPV stuff if you want).  Cheaper than shelling out $50 anyway.

The install is higher for that deal, and there is a term on it as well.

If it had alt tv on it as well I would go for it since I really miss alt, but its not worth it for 5 more inches of prime on each side.
