There is no link between them they are totally independant, except at account/package level.

Sorry, this is a touch off-topic:

HDMI cables: Sony's various blurbs here and there in my manuals for TV, Receiver and HDD recorder state that I should use only their HDMI cables, as if they're somehow different to other brands.  Apart from obvious quality differences like gold plating or superior shielding, one HDMI cable would be very like another, wouldn't it?

Thanks.

Using a non-Sony HDMI cable runs the risk of introducing foreign Pixies into your system. Sony Pixies are trained to run in one direction only, from source to repeater to display, but foreign Pixies can't be trusted and in some cases have been known to run backwards to the source where they've overrun and eaten all the Blu-ray Pixies.

LOL...

Actually I thought it was more about Sony dollars. Introducing foreign HDMI cables to your system runs the risk of removing dollars from Sony's bottom line.

:-) <gr>

So I take it that the answer to my question is that brands should make no difference?

And please only use energy online power in your house just incase your appliances blow up.

These cables do just fine, same site has 1,3 and 5m versions for plus or minus a couple of dollars, for HDMI cables under 5m to pay more than mid $20 is of no advantage.

Thanks Cyril.  That's pretty much what I thought.  Yep, I've bought the Dynamix stuff before, in fact I bought a 5m cable a coupla months back when I was setting up my Bravia and ESS1200 receiver.  But durned if I could make it work with the TV, so I guess that experience introduced an element of doubt into my scone as to whether Sony might actually have been right when they said to only use their cables.

In the end, I skipped the HDMI option and did all that I wanted with SVideo and RGB cables, which work fine.  In hindsight, I'm sure that my Dynamix cable should have worked, so I guess I must have been doing something wrong, or failed to locate the option amongst the 100s of others I had to wade through.

Anyway, now I want to throw in a short HDMI (1m) to enhance a part of my rig, but durned if I', gonna pay Sony $70 for the privilege.  So I'll go down the Dynamix track again.

Cheers :-)

Via snail mail comes a communication for Sky regarding instalation of My sky HDi.

"New Zealanders have been quick to sign up for the crystal clear clarity of My Sky HDi and demand for installations is unprecented. Current we have your installation booked for 30/07/2008. One of our technicians will call the night before to confirm your appointment and make any necessary arrangements to access your property. If you wish to change your installation date, you can do so by calling 0800 759 759."

They must be insane thinking that I would change the installation date.

With multi room My Sky's all recorded shows have to be watched or transfered to other recording media. Serious amount of watching booked for the next few days. Details taken of what is being recorded so that they can be set up on the new units and the AV rack sorted so that which wire goes where is slightly more obvious than it is at the moment. I am sure there will be other hassles that I have not considered yet. Have never upgraded anything with a suprise.

That said I have to give them brownie points for keeping in touch.

Six more sleeps.

I have MySky HD booked for 7th August, mainly to watch NRL in HD, has anyone watched it yet and if so is it that much better? I guess it couldnt be that much worse when some of the feeds are compressed to hell and difficult to see any detail.

Australia obviously have the capability to record in HD as well and i am fairly sure that all the tri nations will be in HD. (they have their own foxtel HD that has already launched) And the UK tour will definetly be HD almost all sports in the UK are Broadcast in HD if you have ever watched anything from there they are constantly touting their SKY Sports HD channels.

FOX SPORTS HD

Let’s hope the video refs get FOX SPORTS HD because now Australian sports fans will be watching all the action with the highest quality sports coverage.

FOX SPORTS HD will virtually put you in the game with High Definition broadcasting of selected AFL, NRL, Rugby Union Internationals, Domestic Cricket, the A-League and Socceroos, as well as, HD coverage of international events and many of FOX SPORTS’ popular magazine programs.

A note to players, we can see where the line is.

Besides what makes you think tonights game from Sydney would be HD but not the game from brisbane?

I guess we will have to wait for the available in HD sign in tonights Trinations match. I am going by last week and the fact that all other sports that Sky NZ have said will be in HD have the "available in HD sign" already showing such as ENG vs SAF cricket, AB's matches in NZ, NRL Monday Night Football, Nascar etc.
