I think Sky sucks big time, both the programming (massive number of repeats) and the image quality. After having Sky for 7 years I'm seriously considering canceling. Not even possible to watch Discovery and National Geographic and enjoy it because of disgusting picture quality, apart from fact that Discovery still 4:3. Vibe makes me physically sick.

I won't allow the decoder to be connected to my 32" lcd and currently run it on a 29" crt.

As for you Clevedon I think you are partially sighted, seriously misguided or both and have simply no idea what the picture could look like with a higher bitrate.

As I have said earlier, when we got our redemption for buying our 50PY800, the time it took to make a decision between a Freeview decoder and a HT system took all of a 1/2 second - HT any day over free to air. You haven't seen MySky HDi yet and are still complaining, but I am sure you will when it does arrive anyway, you just can't keep some people happy. 99% of people don't know about compression, bitrate etc and couldn't care less. Sky all the way thanks.

I just got off the phone with Sky. They LOST MY BOOKING for HD.

The CSR who took my call on June 11 (see this thread), who upsold me to MYSKY 1 for the meantime (I previously only had Digital), didn't make the HD booking. I asked several times whether he had made the booking, which he said he had, but he didn't.

According to a helpful team leader, I have been rebooked for tomorrow, but I am going to have to wait until later this afternoon to find out what time.

If you think you have been booked for tomorrow, and you did it on or around June 11, be sure to call them to confirm.

AT this stage I'll give SKY 2 out of 10 for customer care. If they get me sorted out tomorrow, it'll of up to 7 out of 10.

I booked on June 11 too however I got a confirmation letter a few days ago.

They may not know about compression, bitrates etc but on anything bigger than about a 25" screen its pretty hard to miss the macro blocking and artifacts. Some of the stuff of NatGeo and Discovery make me cringe sometimes the compression is so bad. SS and SM are not quite as bad, but still pretty poor.

You don't need to know the technical woohaa to know the picture looks like crap.

Clearly you are at lesat half blind if you don't have an issue with the picture quality on a 50" screen.

20/20 Vision here dude and sitting at 3 metres, it can't be that bad otherwise you would have nearly all Sky customers in an outrage and it would be in the news if it was, I would be very surprised if there were many Sky customers would have a 25" TV as their primary TV. I think that you grossly overestimate and are getting too tied up in your own specs, maybey you should have your eyes tested ( you might need specs ) there could be something wrong in there.

Sky picture quality is crap, their bit rates are far too low, especially for live sport.  3mb/s or so is not acceptable in my books.  As for their programming, i didn't get Sky to watch general entertainment or documenataries, so doesn't bother me too much.  Though Discovery/Nat Geo in HD would be nice.

Install booked for Thu, just in time for the test on Saturday night Laughing

Hi James,

I just got off the phone with SKY again.

I was assured by a the team leader mentioned above that I would get a call this afternoon from the branch coordinating the installer, telling me the time to expect the installer (I have extenuating circumstances meaning I cannot take a call from the installer this evening). I know the branch closes at 5 PM.

So, at 4:30 I phone SKY's CSR line again, I have to explain the situation twice through (once to an extremely unsympathetic and impolite CSR, and then once to supervisor), and asked them to get the branch to let me know what time to expect the installer.

4:55  - I get a call back from the supervisor, who says he can't find out from the branch what time the tech is expected, but the tech has been asked to get back to me asap.

These guys are doing a seriously poor job on customer service follow through.

The thing thats gets me is you are complaining that it is that bad and terrible to watch but you still watch it and now upgrading to MySky HDi, if it is sooooo bad stick to your crappy free to air and ditch Sky (470,000 households can't be wrong, 1/2 the households in NZ) if you "cringe" every time you view, Sky thinks people like you are great, really unhappy with their product but you still keep on paying, I think you are a fool if you dislike it that much and you are still paying for it, carry on and whinge, whinge, whinge ............

I have my reasons for both. Doesnt change the fact that IMHO, and many many others on these forums, that sky's picture quality is sub par. It's an opinion, thats how I feel, you feel differently. Lets just leave it at that.

The whole thing that pisses me off about HD is for years we have been told to upgrade our "old technology" tv's to the latest and greatest LCD's or Plasmas. Then we have to pay even more just to get a decent picture on the bloody thing. It's not high definition at all, it's normal definition to get a decent picture out of our new $2k-$5k screens. The whole lcd/plasma/hd thing is a rip-off and a have - the picture looks no better than standard definition on a crt tv!!!!!

got my install at 10am tomorrow - looking forward to it

Does anyone know if all programs on the 2 movie and 2 sport channels will be an improvement over SD or will it only be the things that are in native HD i.e. this Saturdays All Blacks test
