Hi team.

Been a while since I have bought a receiver. Had my current pioneer for about 7 years+.

Looking to upgrade, mainly to get 2 HDMI out to simplify my TV/projector setup, as week as the extra bells and whistles that have become standard in the last 7 or so years.

There are two receivers I'm looking at with similar specs - an Onkyo and a Marantz.

The Marantz is 33% more expensive than the Onkyo, but I know Only had some issues with reliability in the past, although I wouldn't know their recent track record.

I am unable to demo either before buying.

Thoughts on Onkyo reliability these days or whether it's worth paying the price premium for the Marantz?

Cheers.

Can't find a Yamaha with 2 HDMI out for under $1000. Unless you know of a deal I don't know of!

My Onkyo (TX-NR708) was great value for money and does the job well enough.

But its been back for repair 3 times for HDMI issues and HDMI connectivity is still a bit dodgy.

I'll be looking at another brand when the time comes.

Life is too short to remove USB safely.

Thanks kiwifidget. That's what I was concerned about with Onkyo.

There have been plenty of reports of HDMI failures in Onkyo receivers but that's clearly not the only thing wrong since I had multiple failures with my stereo amp. I'm unlikely to buy another Onkyo product again.

Marantz = Denon ... Right? Looking for the exact Denon twin could save you some $

Thanks everyone

Ended up pulling the trigger on a Marantz SR5010 for $999 delivered so I'm happy with that.  I know its a 2015 model but it should do everything I want and tidy up a few cables and extras tucked away behind my AV cabinet.

Could have got the Onkyo TX-NR656 for $749, but still put off a bit by the reliability issues over the years.  Thanks for the feedback from those that have owned Onkyo.

Just got to wait for it to get here now....

Cheers all.

My Onkyo which is about 5 years old works just fine, but I do have two fans dedicated to cooling it which may help.
