Dunnersfella:

Turned on the TV this morning and it wanted to update.

After the update everything, and I mean everything crawled to a halt.

Apps loaded slower, sluggish remote control response... hopefully it comes right.

Ouch, that's a worry. Any idea what updated? What Android ver is it on?

A restart on the Sony TV, (it's in the menu options), has done wonders after changing the wifi to 5GHz.  That side of things looks good now, but if I have any further issues with the wifi, I'll do the hard yards and install an Ethernet cable.

The Android OS angle is coming rather unstuck though, in that the device type seems to be excluded from some Apps.

Neon TV seems to be a prime example.  Viewing via the google app store, the Neon TV App is not available for the TV.

I guess there is a side load option, but it's not quite as universal as I'd hoped.

I wanted to load the wifi analyser app that I have on my really old android phone, but that too was not available officially for the TV.

There may be valid reasons for this, but I suspect not in the case of the Neon TV app, which kinda sucks and makes Android as a TV OS less useful than the marketing hype had suggested.

The valid reasons are "touchscreen".

Most developers of apps, like those, make them for touchscreen, so even sideloaded, unless you have a mouse connected, you wont be able to activate anything.

Hadn't thought of such an obvious reason blakamin. There can also be licensing issues e.g.Skype.

But it is frustrating to find so many apps not available.

My 49X7000D is on the Nougat update list. Details are available on a web page from a URL embedded in the TV now. The date of implementation is after 5/2017. Maybe that means June. But, in any event, these upgrades get dished out in waves.

There is a USA update out now (PKG6.2414.0040NAA).

I'm hoping my power up problem will be permanently fixed. I had it for a couple of months, then it went away, but now it has resurfaced. The mind boggles how this on/off behaviour could work with no updates to explain it.

I usually use a wireless USB keyboard, too.
