A friend of mine is looking for something between $500-$800. Doesn't need 4k, not interested in smart options, she will buy an AppleTV4 for that and she doesn't really want anything over 50". I managed to talk her out of The Warehouse yesterday but is that her only option in this price range ?

I've never looked with a budget this tight, does anyone have any suggestions ?

Veon isn't terrible. Stay away from Konic (Harvey Norman cheap brand).

Cheers - N

Check noel leeming website. Sort TV's lowest to highest price and you will see some very good TV's within the budget (including the smarts). Android smarts are great, youtube, netflix, google play all at a press of a button..

That was obviously the first thing I did, but descriptions telling me Full HD is twice as good as standard HD is not exactly what I'm after.

I was hoping someone here would have a better indication of what to look for.

Like the other poster said, why not a Warehouse TV? They are basic and cheap, but the warranty is 3 years and the Warehouse accepts returns without question.

The speakers are rubbish but if you want good sound just plug the optical audio out into a decent soundbar or home theatre receiver.

Ever thought about 2nd hand? Just picked up a 42" Panasonic plasma telly for $120 including the cabinet at a garage sale in the weekend. Plugged in the Chromecast and it became an instant smart telly. It has a far superior image and sound to our newer LCD tellys.
