I currently got:
Antec Fusion case, build in IR receiver
Hauppauge Nova T 500 HD + remote

Planning on installing:
Win XP Pro
Media Portal

Antec states the IR receiver is compadible with MCE remotes and the VFD display is desgined for windows media center and vista. I have seen people did get the VFD working on XP Home/Pro with driver updates.

Wondering if the happauge remote is MCE compadible? I.e. will work with XP Pro + Media Portal?

If it doesn't I assume I have to get a standard MCE remote?

Installing Vista 32bit and buying the Hauppauge MCE Remote for vista is possible

Cheers.

Heres the build: (remote out of stock arriving this week I hope!)

I always thought the Hauppauge Nova T 500 HD came with an IR reciever with the remote.

But anyway, if it works with MCE remotes, the IR receiver should work with mediaportal. Is it a USB receiver or attach to a motherboard header? Mediaportal also works with Hauppuage remotes, so there would only be a problem if for some reason it didnt like them mixing.

If you have the IR receiver built in then you could go for the Harmony remote option. I use a 785 with my iMon receiver and it works great.
There is a long setup period with the Harmony though so don't think it's going to work instantly out of the box. I can say though that if you have a component audio system hooked up to the PC or any other pieces of gear (including an xbox360) the remote is a massive time saver in the long run.

Yea comes with one but would prefer to use the inbuilt IR receiver, less leads going round :p
Hopefully will work with the hauppauge remote otherwise will use its IR receiver
