Long time Samsung AV buyer but have had enough.

First our bedroom LED TV developed a fine bright red line across the screen. Then our big screen in the lounge developed a fine yellow vertical line. Now our newer LED in the family room has today developed a 100mm wide ‘shadow’ across the screen, slightly above the centreline. Subtle but noticeable.

The first 2 issues are on TV’s approaching 10 years old so I guess I can’t really complain, other than they are only used occasionally. The latest shadow issue is on a 5 year old LED, a fairly good one (or at least it was). My Google-fu seems to indicate that this is either an LED or driver problem. Any clues if it’s worth fixing or do we need to go shopping? I will ring Samsung And have a crack at a CGA claim but not expecting they will wear it without a battle.

Two years ago our then four-year-old top-tier 60" Samsung Smart TV developed a dinner-plate sized dark splodge near the middle of the screen. Wasn't always visible - only when screen was dimly lit.

I rang Samsung and at first they tried to put me off so I mentioned CGA and asked for my call to be elevated. I got put on to someone else who agreed to send someone round to look at it.

Two guys came in a van, looked at the telly and agreed it wasn't right. They went out to the van and came back in with a whole new screen. They then proceeded to partially dismantle the TV to put the new screen in.

I was amazed and impressed with the service. This was all done within a couple of days of my phone call.




Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Yes have had great experiences with Samsung support in the past also.  Found the receipt and it's actually 4 years old so feeling a little more confident of a CGA resolution.  Contacted Samsung this morning and logged the job including sending them an image showing the fault. So far so good although we haven't really broached the subject of cost until they determine if it's a manufacturing or customer caused fault. Mentioned the CGA and this was acknowledged, but I accept they need to figure out exactly what has caused this first.  Let the games begin!      

 

Washing machines and phones exploding, and poor reputation for TV reliability.  Going downhill  :-(

  1. I am asking if anyone has any advice or feedback on the fault.  Do they recognise it?  Is it something that they believe is worth going down the repair path or is it not worth it?
  2. I am expressing my frustration at a series of issues with Samsung devices that has resulted in every single TV in my house with some fault.
  3. I am expressing my opinion that while in the past I have been a big fan of Samsung, their name for quality/reliability has taken a hammering, and 'I'm done' with the brand, meaning I won't be buying anymore Samsung AV products.

You are having 2 issues with a 10 Year old , which by your own admission isn't an unreasonable lifetime, and you haven't heard back from Samsung presumably but they may well fix it, in which case I am not sure what reason you'd have to complain. Even 5 Years is a long time in TV Technology.

 

Switch brands if you want to, but I don't think switching due to the issues raised above soley, is reasonable.

 

I prefer Sony anyways, so it's no skin off my nose, I just wonder if you might be being slighly unreasonable.

Long time Samsung user here, I can say every panel and device I have had from them has served me well. 
I have got an ancient (2005 era) 32" LCD that has probably seen 10,000 hours plus and apart from slight ghosting it still works mint. 

I do not recall LED technology in TV's 10 years ago (Maybe your timing is out of touch), Thought it was in the last 5-7 years it went mainstream.

Yes the other TV's are old in age, but are lucky to be used for maybe an hour or two a week, so as far as use is concerned, not a great result.  I have never really looked at Sony for TV's, but will do so as I have 2, possibly 3 to buy in the near future...sigh.  There goes Christmas.  

 

@Coil...sorry you are correct, economising typing on a mobile screen, the other older set is an LCD, not LED

I don't have an audiophile's ears nor a videophile's eyes, which may explain the following:

 

I just cannot understand why someone would by a $2000 name brand TV ahead of a similarly spec'd $800 warehouse TV. They look about the same to me and all sound terrible. The Warehouse has a 3 year warranty and if the TV fails after that who cares, get another one!

Heh, I think you are framing it wrong :) I'd be having a pretty freaking happy xmas if I got 3 new TV's :)

Yeah. My brother is always telling me how great his high end turntable sounds compared to digital sources. I just don't believe him!

The only aspect of the Veon TV's display I don't like is the display of black. In a dark room it's glowing grey.
