I'm asking those who have the new Veon Android smart tvs, not the old ones.

Eg VPS55UHD running Android 4.4.4

I have some questions :

1. Can you play youtube at 4K
2. Can you get netflix at 4K
3. Can you play 5.1 sound mkv files from your home Windows network

I just played with one for 35 mins in store tethered to my phone.

Running android 4.4

TV is Using mobile phone app store.

Downloaded YouTube. Max res was 1080.

Remote was a nightmare. Drove me nuts, back button only works when in airmouse mode.

Android is basically an app on the tv, it's not integrated into the tv os. And it's 4.4 which is ancient.

Overall terrible experience. Would not recommend 0.05/10

Also its not running android tv like on Sony it's more like $20 aliexpress box android rom, upscaled phone rom on a TV.

Has anyone looked at the TCL TVs at JB? https://www.jbhifi.co.nz/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisions/tcl/tcl-55c2us-55-uhd-hdr-smart-led-lcd-tv/338916/

They say they have Android TV (M - Marshmallow?) - though on the description it Says Android M OS, but on the details it says Android TV - so hopefully this is not the Mobile OS.

Good prices for 4K, but nowhere near as cheap as the Veons.

Get an ATV4 as TVNZ OD is about to go on, that means all NZ OnDemand is on there and they will stay there, nit drop off like TV ones do.

Have TVNZ announced this?

Amazon Prime is due this year too.

Ive been thinking about the Veon 4K as well, from the reviews i've seen the picture is actually pretty good when compared to other 4k screens in the $2-3k price range, but sounds terrible and not that smart (like is already mentioned above). if you accept its just a dumb cheap big screen, get a Mi Box (or similar Google TV/Kodi box) and a sound bar you can still probably come in under a grand. Will give you more flexibility with your apps etc than smart features that other TV have.

Yes they have, Chromecast is another good option. 3Now, TVNZ and many other apps now include chromecast support from your phone
