Hello,

 

Just posting here for thoughts on this situation as I find it quite "interesting"

 

We bought a Panasonic DX740 TV back in March, and it has recently started - at totally random intervals - flickering...total screen flickering to the point where it is unwatchable, but after a period of time (seconds to minutes) it will sort itself out. 

 

Its not related to any inputs because I can changed to different inputs or just the TV itself and it still does it. I have powered it off/on and no difference. 

 

So I contacted Panasonic, they directed me towards their warranty contractors (Teletech) and I contacted them to hear their thoughts (sending them details and a video of it happening). 

 

They are sending someone round today to take a look at it. If they can't replicate it, they will take it away to replicate it. Then fix once they have identified the problem. 

 

The part that I find interesting is that it is totally random. It can happen weeks apart, or days, or hours, there is no predicting it. So does this mean that they will take the TV away for an indeterminate time and we will be left to read books and stare at the wall or some other activity not related to a TV. 

 

It seems a little unreasonable to take it away...but I also see from their perspective that they need to see it before being able to fix it...I am wondering if I should just take it back to the retailer and get them to handle it? 

 

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Should've gone to retailer to start with - let them take the headache of getting it sorted. You still wont have a TV either way while its being assessed, but in some cases, the store may just swap it out especially if its a known issue theyve dealt with before.

 Its no drama using the repair company direct - its more the who concept of going without a TV...so a few days is fine - life goes on - but how long is a reasonable amount of time for them to have it before a loan tv is provided or the unit is just replaced outright?

Suggest you should contact the retailer. A decent retailer will help you out.

 

I had an episode where a new F&P washing machine broke down within 2 week of delivery. Repair was going to take something like 2 weeks taking into account inspection and parts arrival time according to F&P.

 

I can't live without a washing machine for 2 weeks. I contacted the retailer and they swapped it out.

I would have gone to the retailer and said it was faulty and they may have replaced it.  JB's have done this for me a couple of times.... no need to be without a TV then.

yeah I think I will see what the repair person has to say - but if they suggest taking it away (for an indefinite time for testing), then I will back out and just take it back to the retailer.

Been there. Our TV was away for two weeks (I bought a cheapie to carry us over). But when mine was delivered back, the service guy asked why I didn't ask for a loaner! 

 

So ask now about a loaner.
