Hey team.

I'm after some recommendations for a replacement tv at around $1000.

My current ~4 year old Sony Bravia has been going strong but has now been water damaged by my 5 year old.

I haven't really been keeping an eye on what's out there, but from my first look I've found these:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/TVSAM36140/Samsung-40MU6100-40-UHD-4K-Flat-Smart-TV--HDR--Blu

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/televisions/televisions/full-hd-hd-televisions/49-59-hd-tvs/panasonic-th-49e400z-49-full-hd-led-television/prod173605.html

https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/hitachi-49-inch-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-tv/R2378611.html

I won't really need a Smart/Android Tv as I have a Roku box all set up and it's doing all I need it to.

Any advice is appreciated!

Check out the Veon TV's at the Warehouse.

There are a few here that have them and from memory people are happy with the picture but the sound needs a bit of help.

Perhaps this and this?  Gets you up to 55" if you're not specifically wanting smaller.

You get more functionality withe the soundbar but if you don't want an add on like the soundbar then you're looking at smaller TV size.

IMHO for that sort of price you're not going to get anything flash. If that was my budget I too would probably just go for a Veon - you'll pay a lot less than that for a TV and get something that's not great picture wise (nothing for $1000 is) but you won't be overpaying for something either.
