sdavisnz: Where did this come from?

And what model tv do you have.

TCL europe. I have 55e17nus.

Can you point us to the source so we can read any more info that might be available or give us some more context about how you came across it? This isn’t really helpful to the thread.

it's from TCL EU website. there's no release info/changes ever. so don't know what info you're after.

Kobiak's link definitely seems to indicate that his TV is in the same group as my 55C2US:

Evgeny, where did you buy your TV? In NZ or elsewhere?

So, a capacitor in my samsung TV has started to make a buzzing noise. Guessing it is going to cost more to fix than is worthwhile.

Should I buy a TCL?  The picture does look pretty good in the stores compared to equivalently priced traditional brands.

I would not recommend a TCL TV. I have a 65X2US QLED TV and would not buy another.

  • It has severe light bleed.
  • Does this horrible auto dimming that I can't seem to disable despite all the relevant settings being set off.
  • Turns on motion smoothing 🤮🤮🤮 when starting HDR video - The setting shows it's off but I have to turn it on and off again to stop it.

    • This is the most annoying thing as it even does it if I've paused a video too long and the screensaver comes on.
  • Prevents CEC shutdown of attached components. E.G. Shield tries to turn TV and AMP off and the TV just turns it all back on again.
  • Turns on whenever I change a setting on the AC (guess not the TVs fault but it's annoying).
  • Their help desk is useless, been trying to resolve the HDR motion smoothing issue for nearly 2 years now!
  • Fast boot randomly stops working so the TV takes minutes to turn on and boot to Android.

Next time I'm going back to Sony, I've always had good experiences with them.

My 55C2US was the best electronics purchase I've made. Zero complaints.

Oh, except from the friggin startup delay, which, hopefully, will be cured by v551 :-)

EDIT: Forgot to mention. Together with a networked Vero media player, a 6TB HDD full of, ahem, entertainment, and groceries delivered by Countdown, it's very easy to stay at home.

I installed it on my 55X4US, now my Apple TV Gen 4 keeps dropping to 720p and I have to manually set it to 1080p every time I change inputs. Not sure exactly what would cause this but guess the TCL is now incorrectly negotiating the resolution with the device? Quite annoying.

Other than that I am seeing no other obvious new features but it does possibly seem a bit more stable overall.
