I wouldn't want a TV with Android OS.

Honestly if I had to get a new LCD TV I'd get a Panasonic 780.

lokhor:

The TCL 55C2US is $1367 at the moment from JB Hi Fi and Smith City

does anyone know how it compares to the Sony KD55X7000E

Thats the model the guys got for $900 at Xmas, so Easter might be a better time for pricing.

This is the model that one Best Buy TV at the EISA awards, its U55C7006 https://www.eisa.eu/awards/tcl-u55c7006/

Honestly after my last 55" Bravia Im so over Sony, but that was pre android OS, it SUCKS. Screen is ok for a 1080p, but yeah, we hoping easter pops up a few options.

Personally I have know issue with Android. Are the TCLs Android? Personally for me lokhor the most important things are quality 4k and HDR compliant as Prime, Youtube, Netflix are all starting to stream in HDR and have been growing in 4k content for some time. AND if you own an Xbox One X it delivers game in 4k HDR.

Whats so great about panasonic? Im presuming you mean the EX780Z series? Will do a google.

I would love an OLED, but cant justify a $5k TV. I nearly bought an Alienware 13 as they are the only or one of very few notebooks to use OLEDs. They use to use the Samsung Super AMOLED. I think they use LG now. They are just the most phenomenal gaming experience, unlike OLED TVs the pixels are so darn fast, Id own one over 120hz for gaming and definitely for the WOW factor in movies and games. I nearly bought a 1 year old 13 1050ti model for $1300 and was going to buy the panel from the US, which is $260 US and install it myself, but the fear factor of what if it doesnt work sunk in as Im sure it must have registry changes or some kind of bios needs. But lets say $1600 all up, add $200 for another years warranty, $1800 vs the $3300 Dell wants.

My next buy is a Galaxy S8 plus as they have become HDR compliant. I watch a lot of stuff on the phone. I would prefer the Note, but not sure if its HDR compliant. Netflix list doesnt include it. LG G6 and V30, Xperia Premium (4k screen with HDR mmmmm), Razer phone, I forget the rest. But it should be noted under gsmarena specs.

So for now big screen wise 4k HDR is as good as Im getting. Ill start renting 4k blu rays once I have it. Just when I thought the video stores were going under. Stream the limited content that is available. And generally just watch all the videos on the youtube channel named "4k HDR"

The TCL55C2US is not the EISA award winner but is popular, gets 9.4/10 from 20 odd reviews in Aussie from goodguys. I think for the price its hard to beat. Id check out the feedback on the Sony, I would like another Sony if it at least has Android.

This is how stupid the smart software was, it had a web browser but wouldnt take wireless keyboards, you had to use the up and down keys to select letters.

If panasonic has better software Id like to know what it is, as Android works very well with Android devices/phones.

I do enjoy the Bezeless nature of the Sony, at the time it was much thinner than the competition, but that was 4 years ago.

Time to upgrade. I note it still has a very small frame and stand.

Heathcotes have it at $1199, but Im sure Easter sales TVs galore will be on special in 2 weeks time.

https://www.heathcotes.co.nz/products/kd55x7000e-sony-55inch-x7000e-led-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-tv?tduid=c668046afa5bcef6488f88f70c0128be

This is an important factor when choosing a TV, evidently Sony were the only company last year to include HDR on all their TVs but panasonic have followed suit and this, which is key.

The 4K models not only support HDR, they support HDR10+, which uses dynamic metadata to optimise the HDR performance scene by scene. Amazon Prime Video is a supporter of HDR10+, along with 20th Century Fox.

EX750 (780) 65" review.

It has slightly thicker bezels than most, but to be honest they still look thin to me. Its key technology is being able to hold onto bright scenes for longer, however its downside is a reasonably low max brigthness of 500 nits (vs say 700 on the Samsung). To me my TV is in a dark corner so I dont have to fight much ambient light, so the technology sounds good to me, others may differ.

4/5, solid looking TV.
