I agree, it's a crying shame.

I did find their warranty process a little inflexible, but in the end the one issue I had with my player was resolved.

We don't use discs anymore and I have my BD 103 with Darbee. It's very high quality and cost $400 USD on a black friday special a few years back..

i have a 103 too as a play-everything media player/streamer.

great picture and sound, relatively easy to use.

it has had one or two bugs, most recently i have one mkv video file with .idx and .sub subtitle files, the oppo won't play it despite specs saying it should.

I still have my BDP-80 which has a hardware mod to be region free for BD's. I keep it because it's the only player I have that can play SACD and DVD-Audio.

The BD-103 is a keeper for some folks I think because code has now been developed to allow it to rip SACD's where before that could only be done on a PS3 (Fat).

I also have a Samsung  4K player which I will use one day when I get a 4K projector :-)

System One: Popcorn Hour A200,  PS3 SuperSlim, NPVR and Plex Server running on Gigabyte Brix (Windows 10 Pro), Sony BDP-S390 BD player, Pioneer AVR, Raspberry Pi running Kodi and Plex, Panasonic 60" 3D plasma, Google Chromecast

System Two: Popcorn Hour A200 ,  Oppo BDP-80 BluRay Player with hardware mode to be region free, Vivitek HD1080P 1080P DLP projector with 100" screen. Harman Kardon HK AVR 254 7.1 receiver, Samsung 4K player, Google Chromecast
