Wow, thats great deal.

I paid 6k the other week for a a1.

My A1 has been sitting on a cabinet while I check all the cables etc run fine, then I'm going to wall mount it.

I am keen to wall mount as well but unsure on the best bracket. Have you looked at different options yet? I’d like to get as close to the wall as possible.

I just picked up a Brateck Tilting TV Wall Bracket - Max 75kgs 42"~70"
SKU: PLB-33XXL to mount mine. Will install it this weekend. I opted for standard over slim as the wall it’s mounted to is at the end of the room and my cabinet below is quite deep. There are slim options in the range though.

Wow...amazing price for the Sony A1. I wanted an A1 but ended up getting one of the "last" NIB LG C7s for $4700 a couple of months ago. The Sonys were quite a bit more expensive and they wouldnt budge on the price. Loving OLED though, amazing image quality.

I was in Harvey Norman in Wellington today. They're trying to sell their display model 65C7 for $4799. They also had a totally crazy price on their display model 65 A1 which was high $5k something...Talk about dreaaaaming.

65C7 got down to $4199 new at Easter at JB during their clearance sale.

That Harvey Norman store was where I saw the worst burn-in I had seen on display OLEDs anywhere. Probably due to turning banks of TVs of at the wall at the end of the day. Just reinforces my opinion that you shouldn't buy an ex-demo OLED.

How does turning it off affect burn in?

Batman: How does turning it off affect burn in?

OLEDs have 'anti burn in' cycles that run when the sets are put into standby. If the power is turned off at the wall it can't run and that is what happens when you have a central power switch for a whole bank of TVs. The sets I saw were running cinema wide movies and that left an affected strip across the middle of the screen.

Harvey Norman have the 65" A8F for $6000 and JB HiFi for $5998. I'm extremely tempted!

I have a friend who works in the TV department at one of the big retailers, who suggested I'd be better going for the 65" LG C8. So I took his advice and pulled the trigger on the C8 and got "friends & family" pricing of $5249, which I'm pretty happy with.

What was his reasoning, other than price, for going with C8 vs A8F?

I think mainly that it is a newer generation panel, apparently Sony won't be using that panel until their next model. He also mentioned better detail in near black HDR scenes and that LG made their own processing chip for this series, rather than farming it out to Intel. He knows more than me about it, so I was happy to go with his advice.

I think Sony would win hands down on audio with the acoustic surface on the A8F, but I use a separate AV receiver so that was of no benefit to me.

Thanks. Interesting to hear others perspectives. When comparing reviews online, half side with A1/A8F and half go with C8 with one of the main kickers being peoples like/dislike of the OS.

I'm happy with my A1 but truth be told, had the C8 been the same price, it would have been a harder decision. Like you, the acoustic surface isn't a major selling point as I also use external speakers.

I don't think you could go too wrong with either to be honest. The kick-stand design is the only thing that would have stopped me getting an A1 if it had still been available at the price you paid.

And there is always something better around the corner. No doubt the Sony A9 will blow everything else out of the water.

Has LG started selling the 77" C8 OLED in NZ yet?

Brought one online yesterday morning from Harvey and had it delivered and on the wall by 5pm last night. Watched some World Cup on BBC iPlayer which looked fantastic. The black on the Tunisian goalies strip was just amazing compared to my old LCD.

Here's a trap for beginners...

It seems neither the LG C8 or Sony A8F have gigabit ethernet ports, only 100mbps.

I was cursing and swearing that my high bitrate 4K UHD files were pausing and stuttering when streaming from my server to my C8.

Fortunately the C8 supports 802.11ac wifi so switching to that has sped things up nicely, but I'm moderately annoyed that I had to do this. I felt a bit better after I downloaded the manual of the A8F and read that it is only 100mbps as well (if the A8F has wired gigabit I would have regretted not getting that instead).

According to the manual the A8F also supports 802.11ac wifi, so they both seem to be on equal footing it that regard.

But it seems crazy that such expensive TVs don't have gigabit ethernet!
