I asked this in another forum but this one seems a bit more active... I have heard the four months free multi room is only for existing mysky 1 users. I have a standard STB but when I signed up for mysky the other day they said I could use my existing box for multiroom with the 4 months free. Is this right or have I been led astray?

Cheers

I too would be interested to hear if I could get this deal without being a Mysky1 owner.
It would likely make me move to HDI

We called them last night, and they said there are NO editing functions on this box, to cut parts of video out, and that they encrypt the output ports to only work in SD because they don't want people copying off stuff from the box.

Its gonna be pretty tedious to record, then playback whilst recording to another device, editing and then recording to media!.

Will the ethernet port allow you to remove files from the box?

Balchy: I have the deal you mention above. Currently I only have SKY digital (no MYSky 1) and when i rung SKY to get MySky HDi, the CSR asked whether I wanted normal sky digital in a 2nd room (which I did).

So the deal was that I have to keep SKY MySkY HDi for 12 months (since I am only doign the 'pay as you go' thing) and I get normal sky for 4 months after which I can return it if I dont want it anymore. I think it works out that I pay an additional $25 more than what I pay now for my SKy digital.

Thought this was an OK deal.

The problem that I had was that currently I was using a Gigaair 2020 AV Receiver and sender to get sky in the bedroom. This work Ok most of the time but not so good when the microwave is on or if someone is on the wireless network becuase its 2.4ghz.

I am hoping that when the installer comes to do the MY Sky HDI and 2nd bedroom installation he will install a proper wire to the bedroom - nice and tidily (not sum random wire strewn across the lounge and kitchen i.e a health hazard).

Now the CSR at SKY did tell me that there were several permutations and comibinations fo gettign the MYSKY HDi deal.

It depends on what wiring you already have in place but there are plenty of outputs on the back of the MySky HDi box, including component, composite and SCART. The only one missing is RF (i.e. TV aerial type signal) but you can do that by hooking the Sky box to an old video or an external RF modulator available from Dick Smith/Jaycar. There's little to be gained from trying to get an HDMI signal to a non-HD TV.

(Image borrowed from posting by MattD in a similar thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=34&TopicId=20830)

Current setup, MySky with RF Out feed to bedroom. MySky HDi being installed Tuesday :) I still want to RF out to bedroom.
I've just tried the sky box - dvd recorder (Panasonic HDD) - RF to bedroom, and it doesn't work. Scart from Sky to recorder.
Is there a problem with scart in and RF out - does the recorder RF out only work if there is an RF in???

Guess I'll have to got the modulator route -, is the jaycar one RCA to normal aerial connection???

Thanks for any help.

PS, have told them I don't need old box for mulitroom (small house only 2 people), and AV sender signal isn't really good enough.
