BazNZ: I'm still waiting for the 50" in hit New Zealand shores. In the meantime I'm just staring at this.....

PANSONIC PLASMA TH-50PY800

The 50PY800 are instore now, ours just got delivered this afternoon. $3649. Got free delivery $60, free plasma / lcd cleaning kit $50, free Pudney HDMI cable $100, free Pudney component cable $100, free Belkin 8 way surge protector $200. So $3649 - $510 = $3139. Plus with the Panasonic home theatre redemption and MYSKY HDi free for six months redemption we are pretty happy.

Great News clevedon....do tell me what you think of this TV. I'd be very interested in your personal opinion of this latest model regarding Picture quality at home etc.

Also can I ask some Qs about the TH50PY800 vs current/new model LCDs. Am more familiar with LCDs. How does the marketed 480Hz compare to a 100Hz LCD and also what of the response time vs LCDs that are now rated 2-3ms? I cannot find any info on these specs anywhere. Appreciate some help here please.

Thanks!

Thanks again Clevedon, and thanks guys for the thread, never would have known where best to go how low the price can go on these units. Got myself sorted today and looking forward to it. Funny thing was just a day ago I was sold on a good deal for the "old" (2007) Philips 47 top model with ambilight at similar price $3400 from rrp of $6000 (yes I'm gullible for the Ambilight, who isnt?) and never even considered plasma (heat, reflection, screen burn myth etc) but luckily saw the new 800 model and its rrp in the same shop which got me thinking.

I would never have thought about buying such a nice toy new on release due to cost. but these things are really good value for money. Now I can replace the Acer 37"! Hope you guys are all happy with your sets, am sure I will be. Now just need to go fork out for Freeview HD and wireless for the home theatre.

Baz, don't know how you can wait so long, I can't. But I'm killing time looking into all the extra ways to spend what little $ I have left after this TV, so far I have a small list; Draco Freeview HD, Wireless for the home theatre via redemption, BIG UPS. I don't have Blu-Ray, HDD recorder etc yet, maybe for next years budget.

Am pretty sure I will be happy for the next few years (until the new model comes out), couldn't take my eyes off this TV while it was showing Open Season on Blu-Ray, good cartoon!?! (animated movie)

Good luck with yours.

Finally arrived today and all installed. All I can say is..... WOW ! The depth and Motion technology of this HDTV has blown me away now its in my lounge. This all from a mere DVD. I can't wait for my Freeview HD set top box...not to mention a Blu Ray player if this is the Picture Quality from a DVD ! Very happy !!CoolLaughingSmile

Baz, I have the same problem as you, a post-TV shopping list.

By the way, how long are all you guys waiting for your redemption? Cannot wait for more toys to play with (went with the home theatre just for the DVD upscaling), no ps3, bluray, freeview hd, sky hd yet!

Talked to Panasonic last Friday asking about our HT redemption because we wanted it to be there for the MySky HDi install on Monday 4th but they said they were two weeks away, so hopefully in a weeks time we should see them.

I've decided (through good advice from Jaxson) to buy a much less expensive but newer FreeviewHD set top box which looks better value than the Zinwell. I now have to decide between redeeming the Panasonic HDD Recorder or the Home Theatre System of this promotion. Whatever I get I'll more than likely sell it on Trade Me to help pay for the FreeviewHD set top box...or the PS3...or a MySkyHDi set top box with multiroom....or a standalone BluRay player. Decisions Decisions!
I'll be broke by Christmas at this rate. I do need to decide on a PS3 or a Blu Ray player though to play my DVD collection and any up-coming Blu Ray titles. I'm leaning towards the PS3 as you seem to get more bang for your buck. I want one that produces good 5.1 video & sound quality watching DVD's through my 5.1 Logitech Speakers.
