I also agree with your argument, and certainly getting plenty of press in Aus on the decline of advertising spend for FTA stations, as savvy audience can bypass/filter ads.

stuffed: OK all you MySky HDi techos – any suggestions on this one?!“Code C029 – Playback not available – please contact your service provider”. Just been installed 2 days – is happening on about half of the recorded programmes.Have been talking to Sky – done a soft reset – they are now sending an ambulance team….
Just be good to have some leads on it!

Hi,

I had this problem after he initial install. The problem was the card was not mapped correctly to decoder. The skytech spoke to a CSR and between them they corrected the problem. I also found that the original mysky1 would not record programmes either as the card was also wrong. maybe you can give a Sky CSR your card details and get them to reassign and activate again.

Do you have the same problem now? I had the problem this afternoon from 2PM during the final hour of Tennis up to 8PM. For some reason everything is back to normal now.

I'd love to be savvy. How do we do this?


The easiest way is to have a programmable remote that has extensive macro functions - i.e. able to string together a bunch of commands for a single button and also have timing options. I use a Pronto NG which is a fully programmable touch screen remote.

Ad breaks on most free to air broadcasts are currently 4 minutes long, usually 8 x 30 second ads so you just need to work out how to fast forward approx 4 minutes with your remote. I have successfully done this for several years with my VCR, then DVR, HTPC and now with MySky. However the sky box is a bit flakey because of the FF bugs and sometimes the forwarding can be slower than usual. In the case of the MySky unit I have a single button named '+4' that sends the FF command four times with a delay of 0.2 seconds between each FF 'press' then the remote waits for about 3.7 seconds then 'presses' the play button. Works well most of the time.

I also have a '-4' named button that does the same thing for rewind Cool

Cheers, I like the sound of that. Is the remote fairly robust? (i.e. does it enjoy being dropped on the floor every 5 minutes by teenaged daughters?)

Ok if you can ask him why this specific error happens would benefit alot of people who might have the problem in the future. Keep us posted.

Smile - Nope, the Pronto is not designed to be thrown on the floor. However, I can tell you that it takes a beating because the last thing that I wanted to drop on the sharp rocks and gravel when moving into the new house was my $1200 remote - guess what ? - Yup, lots of swearing later and finding the odd scatch did not help but it's still working fine.

Re "Code C029" error - yep it was the card problem. 
Interesting - Sky did not tell the tech what the error was or how to fix it - he arrived with a new box and thanks to your troops was able to tell him what the prob was!!
Does not give you a lot of confidence about the Sky tech systems!

Had my first lockup in the weekend. Had my unit for about 2 weeks, was only the 2nd time I had recorded something and it died.

Set program to record then put unit in standby and went to bed, woke up in the morning, tried to bring the unit out of standby and it wouldn't turn on. Reset the unit (using the little red button), then it turned on, went to the Planner and hello... the program I recorded said FAILED.

Not very promising considering this is only the 2nd time I have recorded something.

Seriously, you'd be lucky if you get anyone that knows anything about the system and trouble shooting process. Best bet would be to ask to speak with the Tech team. 90% of the standard CSR's you'd likely speak to would be talking out of their ass, guessing/ trying to sound confident in what they're advising you (as they haven't done much by way of training the call centre staff, sans the tech team and maybe a few senoir CSR's)

All together Sky customer services sucks.

Couldn't agree more. I had one CSR tell me the HDi modulator that comes with Mysky hdi was booked in for install on Christmas Day and if I wasn't happy with the service they could always cut the HD service off. She refused to put me through to a manager so I could get another opinion. She was bored, aggressive, petty.

If you don't like where you work ...leave! I say.

I have HD component out activated on my HDi and just noticed today that Sky or TV3 have activated HDCP (I get a meassage saying HDCP failed and it will display as SD only - and then I have to get rid of the message), as component reverts to SD on TV3 only - both sports HD channels don't do this. Anyone else see this?
