Each TV depending on the make and model has settings that are best suited to it, and each person has their own preference.
Personally I wouldn't let the Sky Techs tune my TV. I'd check the forums for users who have had success with settings for the same TV as yours and "suck it and see"  or if you're serious get a Visual/Audio specialist as you mention in that has the appropriate skills and tools but not the Sky tech.

My 2 cents worth anyway.

Thanks corbetg, Yeah agree... I wasn't sure a Sky installer would have the special skills required to get into the TV settings. I'll ring Panasonic and see if they recommend anyone down this way.

Is anyone still getting their Sky HDI crashing and having to be rebooted since the firmware update the other week???  Mine hasn't crashed once since then and I am stoked - I've had no problems whatsoever!

Just to clarify I'm not talking about problems with the remote.

Got mine installed yesterday and I'm impressed. The HD picture is very good... better than I thought it would. I was more surprised how good the sound was on all channels as well...beautiful. It's also so easy to use...Just need more HD content but it'll come in time no doubt. As for the freeze bug I haven't had any this early on. But it got an instant update straight out of the box so looking at all responses here it should have fixed any past issues.

Yeah...I've had mine since 5/9/08 and it just had a couple of spells of "ignoring" the remote (once while on Fast Forward...STOP YOU B*STARD!!) before the firmware update.
Since then it had a bad freeze a couple of days ago when I was recording 2 x SD channels and watching TV3, looked at planner, went back to TV3 and the sound was OK but the picture frozen. Had to press the red button for the first time ever (boo hoo).
Interestingly, for the rest of the evening I got a periodic picture disturbance of white lines covering the image, whether it was a recorded show, or live. Never seen it before or since. It wasn't the TV because it wasn't there on other inputs (FreeView, DVD).
Looking back over the thread, the lockups seem to be when we ask the machine to do too much at the same time.

I've stressed my pretty hard lately, even managed to fill up the HDD. I have recorded 2xHD and watched a recorded show, many RW and FW even pauses. Never missed a beat since the upgrade (I know I spoke too soon!!!).

Had mine since 6-August with constant lock ups, reboots and lost recordings. The day after I sent a shirty email to Sky ordering a replacement decoder, the firmware update happened and I have had no problems since.

I still suspect that all this trouble was due to 'them' trying to lock out the other two tuners and I would like a refund for 5 weeks of lost recordings and having to listen to the excuses.

My box with updated firmware is showing strange results on the signal test.
Tuner 1 and 2 showing 68-70dBuV, 1.00E-5BER Locked
Tuner 3 and 4 showing 65dBuV, and switching between 1.00E-5BER and 7.95E-02BER UnLocked

I then enabled recording Sky movies 1 & 2, changed the live channel to TV3 and it works fine.
Checked the recordings everything is recorded fine, no breakups.

Rechecking the signal test screen now shows, the lock on tuners swapped.
Tuner 1 and 3 showing 68-70dBuV, 1.00E-5BER Locked
Tuner 2 and 4 showing 65-69dBuV, and switching between 1.00E-5BER and 7.95E-02BER UnLocked

Whats going on here?  Havent seen any pixellation or picture breakups on the recordings when recording 2 channels and watching a live 3rd.

Getting the same two turners unlocked, no2 and 4.

Signal is good but quality is dead on two turners.

No problems with recordings/ live tv.

My guess is they're tuned into the movie on demand download channel and no data being sent to satelite as guess they only need to download once a week.

The new firmware has a bug in the signal strength display screen when the tuners are tuned to DVB-S2 (HD) streams (i.e. TS 7 and 8). The signal strength screen shows there are problems, but the decoder is actually able to receive data from these streams. The bug is due to be fixed in a future release.

Both I and some friends of mine had our upgraded boxes crash within a few minutes of each other last night. My friends' went at about 2015 and mine sometime during NCIS (2030 to 2130).

10 Hours into my new box and first lockup ...however...Pressing the red button didn't  damage the recordings?

Scenario. Time is 8.30 pm

Recording 1 x Sky Sports

Set to Record 1 X Prime at 8.35 pm

Currently watching Ch 1 - Who wants to be a Millionaire...Its just started...

At around the time the box starts recording Mythbusters i,e 8.35 the picture on WWTBAM freezes but I still get sound...Every button dead..

Press the red reset button and 2 minutes later back to normal after rebooting...However the recordings were still running and watchable ???

Hope this isn't a sign of things to come...I waited a while before buying whilst they sorted out the technical / firmware issues...

Well something has gone weird with HD sports on my unit in the last couple of days (don't have HD movies so can't test with that)..
When I watch something live there is picture stuttering, frames get missed like the decoder can't keep up or something.
But then I use Live Pause/rewind so that I'm about a minute behind the picture is perfect again (for the most part).

Its done it again...ALMOST identical to 7 days ago..... Can someone out there put 2+2 together to figure this out??

Recording Downsize me ...Finishes at 8.30

Planner set to record Mythbusters and also Untouchables - both starting at 8.30.

Pretty much bang on 8.30 the picture freezes - TV 1 on Sky  - and we can hear sound but nothing else works.

Reset the box and downsize me has failed but Mythbusters and Untouchables now recording okay...

Either its something to do with Prime, Mythbusters or the fact I'm watching TV1...

Any takers before I start speaking to someone at Sky which I really ain't looking forwards too given experiences with them to date....

Thx
