If you're desperate you could try Emby server on the Shield. I use it on a PC, never tried a Shield though. Never heard about it sleeping, but as I say, I've never tried that particular combo. You might have to pay for Emby Premium.

What issues are you currently experiencing on the Nvidia Shield?
Since the 8.0.0 install
Main SHIELD in Living Room 3 times crashed and burned kernal panic immediatly after ending playback
Bedroom SHIELD - intermittant no video sync to Samsung TV on wake up
Main and bedroom SHIELD remote does not respond for AGES after restarting powercycling
and even a factory reset of the SHIELD
and then more issues the same as everyone else
VC1 is broken, AV1 is broken. youtube no longer in 4k (even tho it says its in 4k), viewport says differently
Mine looses sync with my Samsung TV as well, once in a while it drops to static over and over - I just restart it and it seems to fix itself. Is that what happens to you?

Only Since 8.0.0 ? i am only loosing sync during the wake/tv on process not during use. has the unit actually crashed and you have to power cycle it? what if you turn the tv off
and back on does it come back?
I've can't seem to get mine to remember the static IP settings, keeps going back to default DHCP, with google DNS entries.
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!

nah its been doing it all along, just thought the update might help. Pity its out of warranty, Amazon would have exchanged it.

thats annoying
changed the HDMI cable?
Tried a different port on the TV?
Updated TV Firmware?
and probably most impotantly - factory reset the SHIELD and started again?
hows the performance of game stream? do you notice much if any input lag? also using wired or wireless connection?
do you rate the shield controller and have you tried any alternative controllers that are better?
cheers :)
dt: is anyone here using their shield for gaming? if so couple of questions.. hows the performance of game stream? do you notice much if any input lag? also using wired or wireless connection? do you rate the shield controller and have you tried any alternative controllers that are better? cheers :)
FYI I didn't bother getting the controller version since was only ever going to use it as streaming device. I have plugged a Xbox wired one in to try and got quite bored with it- but I have an fully kitted out gaming PC in the back room so just seems silly to be gaming on a shield!
Oh and its wired (1Gb fibre to house) , never lag except when I'm watching twitch- must be their app that's a bit broken.

thanks for the tips- have tried everything except for the factory reset. I'll try that today.
game stream as in streaming the games from nvidias cloud gaming service?
its useless, latency is too high. servers are too far away, they dont have any in AU or NZ

Cheers, same here, gamestream has piqued my interested though, it streams the games from your PC to the device.
would be cool for game like GTA, Street fighter, Mortal Kombat etc.
they have a pretty extensive list of supported games

if I was going to give it a go id personally have it wired in as well, just wondered what the input lag is like with game stream from anyone who has used it

Yeah the streaming from PC works fine (I have a 1080) but i still can't see why if I have a PC and screen already... but depends on how social you are I guess, I prefer a close up screen on my own, with a mouse!
How's everyone finding PIE on STV as of now? I usually avoid upgrades and I have the latest version of the Shield as of 18 months ago, the one that does 4K.
dont bother to install it if you havent already, all you will get is issues not enhancements
Nvidia released a hotfix image yesterday by signup only (attempting) to fix half a dozen bugs from the 8.0.0 release, still another dozen or so to go
the best version to be on is 7.2.3+ (have to get via forums)
It's getting really pushy with telling me to upgrade. "Remind me later" should mean next week, not every few hours...
