dickson: I've attempted to remove my all my remote control preferences. My remote doesn't seem to have a brand on it or anything but it does have a Windows button hoewver that doesn't activate anything anyway.

The clear button seems to take me back out of the current screen to the previous screen and the enter button selects items.

But it is really strange, I think it was MP .02..... where the remote totally worked and I wanted to install MP 0.2.... but thought it might stuff up my current MP1.0 setttings etc

So this showed me it could work and i have installed the drivers for hauppauge on MP1.0 with no change.

THe forward, rewind, play, stop, back, skip back/forw don't work.

I wonder if some one has a hauppauge irremote.ini file working I wounder if I should try that?
Or can I install MP.02..... on the same machine as I have MP1.0 .... any experience anyone?

Help!!!!

I need to clarify some information please.
What operating system are you using?  Does it include MCE or Vista Media Centre? You may need some functionality from these to make your remote work.
You have a USB infrared remote, how many buttons on it?  When you plug the sensor into the computer what does windows say you have installed.
The latest MediaPortal version is 1.0 RC2.  Are you saying above you have RC1 installed.  If you are still using something earlier then it may be time to clean house and start afresh.

I believe irremote.ini file is only for ir sensors connected to hauppauge cards, perhaps someone with better understanding of IR codes  may be able to help???

Okay someone who runs XP Pro may be able to shed some more light on this than me, but I believe the drivers to properly operate your USB remote (MCE clone I think) are contained in either MCE or VistaMC.
So to get your remote working properly you're possibly going to need to do a net search for the necessary drivers and additional software.

The reason your remote may produce a few functions is the computer might be seeing it as a USB keyboard, remote command clear=esc on the keyboard, okay=enter, etc.  Those are the standard keyboard commands in MediaPortal to go back to previous screen(esc) and select (enter).

Hi,

Can anyone confirm that the Hauppauge PCI IR receiver can wake the PC from standby, or do I need to replace it with a MCE USB IR?

I have a Haupauge NOVA-T-500 Dual DVB-T PCI card and IR receiver running in a XP Pro SP3 HTPC.

I have configured Iremote.ini to start/ stop Media Center and send the PC to sleep but I haven't managed to get it to wake the PC. (I have to press a keyboard key or power button which is not very elegant).

I couldn't make the PCI remote do what you asked.  In the end I got an MCE usb remote (well a clone actually) which will take my VISTA (Home Premium) machine in and out of hibernate.
However, that presented its own problems as it kept starting MCE over top of MP when various buttons (e.g. MyTV) were pressed.  Also note, if you don't have MCE then you will need to find some drivers and software to make an MCE usb remote work because they are included in MCE (or VMC in my case).

Thanks for that confirmation.

I guess that is the end of the road for the Hauppauge PCI sensor IR. Just a shame I spent so much time getting it all setup and intergrated to the Logitech 520.

I had already picked up a $17 MCE clone remote from Jaycar on Friday.
The remote is really rubbish as it is intermittant and 'squeeks' on button press. If I can get the remote working at all, I intended to teach the commands to the Logitech and only use the MCE USB IR sensor.Assuming I get the microsoft USB IR drivers setup

If I can I get the microsoft USB IR drivers setup with the MCE IR sensor should I:
1. Use the MCE remote or the Hauppage 45 button (black) remote?
2. Configure Media Portal 1.0RC3 for MCE or Hauppauge remote?

Thanks

I too use a logitech remote.  However I still use two commands from my hauppauge PCI remote, the GO  and Power buttons.  I need the GO button particularly via irremote.ini because I couldn't figure out how to hack the MCE config file to make it start MP.  So I still have both sensors connected.  Because of conflict between the hauppauge remote and Sky Digital I edited the hauppauge file in MP config to remove everything except GO and Power. I use the MCE commands to run MP.  So in answer to 2. above I have both selected in MP config but hauppauge is modified.

Just an update of sorts...

My HTPC with media portal is still working fine with the Hauppauge PCI IR sensor but can not wakeup using IR.

I have given up on the Jaycar MCE remote.
I could get it to 'kind of work' with lots of ini hacks and utilities, but it is not worth the effort.

I have ordered (one of the last?) genuine Microsoft MCE (XP media center) remotes with blaster USB...

Hi Then does anyone have hauppague Remote 45 button working on media portal?

Actually I am assuming that the remote is using Hauppauge's irremote.ini, if so can anyone supply me with either the file or the section for media portal ?

if not, how to do I program the buttons to work with MP?

I took my Jaycar MCE remote back after one day. Too many buttons not doing what they should (most did nothing)
If you have trouble with start, stop & pause then its a waste of time. Manual was completely worthless

Strangely, the guy in the shop wouldnt beleive that it could just be a poor product ("we sell thousands of these")
I just gave up & told him it was faulty .

If you find somewhere selling the GENUINE MS remotes (or just the reciever), can you let us know.

Irremote.ini modification to start Media Portal by pressing the 'green button':

Unfortunatly I don't know how / if I can do attachments so I will do it long hand:

My Setup:
WinTV IR32.exe 2.57.26021 (included on the Hauppauge 5.1 CD supplied with my WinTV Nova-T500 HD PCI card)
Irremote.ini version 2,56,25239,0

The difference from the orignal installed Irremote.ini are as follows (by file line number):

0018 ; [ 3] Repeat delay
0019  RepeatDelay=10
0020  ; [;1] Sound for MessageBeep() to make for each Remote Keystroke
0021  Beep = 1
0022  ; [;0] Sound for MessageBeep() to make when powering down
0023  PowerDownSound = 0
0024  ; [ 1] Use tray as app launcher
0025  MenuLoad=0
0030  ;       29 Is silver remote
0031  ;       30 Is Black 45 button remote
0311  Media Portal=
0332  GRNPOWER={run(MediaPortal.exe)}{mode(Media Portal)}
0361  ; Mod 20081018 from xGRNPOWER={run(C:\windows\ehome\ehshell.exe)}
0362  ; Mod 20081018 from xMCEJEWEL={run(C:\windows\ehome\ehshell.exe)}

1779
1780  ; Added 20081018
1781  [Media Portal]
1782  ;GRNPOWER={ctrl}z{mode(Default)}
1783  ;GO={run(MediaPortal.exe)}

Explanation (by line):
18..31: [Remote] section. Just tweaking the powerup default actions. Optional.

Note: All Irremote.ini comments must be on their own line, as I found out the hard way.
If you place comments at the end of a
setting they will be read and probably muck things up.

311: [Application] section. Declare a 'Media Portal' section exists

332: [Default] section. Redefine the 'green button' to start Media Portal, and use the Media Portal section.

361..362: [Default section. Remove useless definitions.

1779..1783: End of file. Define a [Media Portal] section and redefine buttons when using this section.

Note: The section must be defined but I eventually found that it was unnecessary to redefine any keys.
('green button' goes back to main MP menu. Use cursor to exit / shutdown.
