shadybrothers:

Based on the conversation of the last page it sounds like I would be making a mistake purchasing a LG 65SM8100PVA for $2300 over the more expensive C9 OLED for $5300?

I would be serving content from plex through an appletv 4k... Is the difference in screen picture quality that big of a deal? I will be coming from a Samsung Plasma (PS59D6500)

How would negotiations go with the retail stores in terms of lowest price they would go for either set? Would we likely see further drops around labour day?

Going from a plasma to that would be a mistake, yes. I have an older version of that LG TV, and while it does alright with bright lit content like sportsball, edge-lit plus IPS is a recipe for a bad time in movies and pretty TV shows (GOT S8E4 was a barely watchable dumpster fire for me). If OLED is out of your budget I would say at a minimum look at something like the x950g, but after a Plasma, I suspect most LCD-LED TVs are gonna disappoint you.

I would recommend doing a bit of window shopping, even with the overblown sales modes most showroom TVs are on, OLED is a noticable difference.

Definitely wait if you are in no hurry, TVs will start dropping in price towards Labor Weekend/Black Friday/Christmas/Boxing day. Keep an eye on Pricespy to track pricing trends and what a good deal actually looks like.

Planning to get a TV upgrade from my crappy Veon during NL massive sellout.

Considering LG SM8100, Sony x800g, and any samsung within that price range.

Any other good options?

what's the budget? all LEDs are not very good - I would buy the cheapest and biggest and save up for OLED or Samsung QLED

QLED is still LED just with some marketing sprinkled on.

OLED is the way to go, although they don't get above 500nints compare to a highend LED which can easily go above 1.2k nits

The 55C9 is/was on 1day at $3k. So chances of more discounts before the end of the year are good?

This guy?

Comparing the C8 price history vs the C9, it may be awhile before it drops near that low.

But I would want to know more about the source of those TVs and the warranty. I have heard only good things about LG's OLED panel warranty, so I would want to read in fine detail what the 1day 12-month warranty covers.

Those were my thoughts also. Normally they note if Parallel Imported or Refurbished. Did seem like a very goo deal for no reason.

Picked up an LG C9 at the Noel Leeming expo for about $50 more than what 1-day is selling at.

Properly tested the OLEDness with YouTube and Netflix last night and its so good. Had three LG 4K TVs before this one but this is the first OLED. So, so much better for the real HDR type stuff. TV wise, don't really see much difference (i.e "upscaling")..

The C9 is awesome, I love mine and glad I finally upgraded from our Panasonic Plasma.
