We have just had My Sky HD installed.

We've noticed that on some of the HD programmes, only 3 sound channels (front L,R and centre) are received; and on others all 6 channels are received.  In all cases where we're tuned into a HD programme, the receiver says that we are receiving Dolby 5.1.

Can anyone explain what is going on?

not all programs are dolby 5.1. Where they're not 5.1 I think your centre speaker will have no sound either, it'll be only left and right speakers.

Even when a program is not 5.1, they still transmit sound in that format, just it's two channels of sound, other 4 channels quiet. If watching live and not a 5.1 program then hit setup button, use arrows to go to audio, then select "alt english" with left, right arrows.

If watching a recording will have to go into system setup and change audio to mpeg or use an analog connection to your stero.

Thanks - you're right, no sound from centre either, just f/r and f/l.

One of the main reasons we upgraded to the new box was to get the 5.1 sound.  Its quite annoying that most of the advertised 5.1 (ie HD) programmes are only being transmitted in 2 channels.

Hopefully this will change.

I just output on the Optical and via the L/R AV plug to 2 inputs on my home theater, if its a 5.1 transmission I select "Video 1" (or Mysky as i've labelled it). And if not I select "Video 2" and let the PrologicII give me a simulation, at least then I get the centre speaker working correctly and the music comes out my rear speakers. Its a simple work around and my HT has plenty of inputs.

it is a shame they cant drop back to a 2.0 DD stream when the program is stereo, because that would make this crap not happen. Even then, expecting them to tag things correctly as stereo or prologic would be expecting a bit much.

They can't even get symbols in guide right. The movie "SunShine" had the DD5.1 symbol and it wasn't.

I have the same issue with this movie (recorded as opposed to live broadcast) any ideas?
