whats up with used turntable prices on Trademe .
Some very old turntables are selling for rediculous prices

One that Ive been watching was a Luxman TT , I'm sure its my old Luxman from 30+ years ago .
It sold on trademe for $600 , more than they originally cost (from memory) . No way is it better than a more modern belt TT selling used on trademe for half the cost
Even Rega's often sell for less .

30+ year old TT's at rediculous pricing . Even what were even more budget level TT's are now selling for stupid amounts
Why not spend less and get something more modern, with a much better arm and less fussy with setup.

Its like with vintage audio and old cars. Its old so it must be good in many peoples minds. Also nostalgia afflicts many peoples buying decisions.

I guess there's a retro-loving sucker born every minute!

There are a few fully restored classics on Trademe, but I would need to have enjoyed numerous adult beverages before EVER considering one...

Vinyl is the rage at the mo. I do like the sound of records but I suspect that is to do with nostalgia more than accuracy.

what rich and dunners said.

too many rose tinted glasses being worn.

too many sharks trying to cash in on the vinyl revival.

if you do buy one of those vintage tables, put a lot of money aside in a contingency fund.

many sony, technics et al use custiom ICs that have long disappeared, if they break, your table is likely to be reduced to paperweight status.
