Seriously hey, I was sure it was a loophole. Retailers get a supplier rebate to help them achieve boxing day prices like that. The consumer cashback ended on Christmas eve. Most retailers didn't launch their boxing day prices til at least Christmas. Sounds like Jonathan copped the same deal with his 30 day price promise refund. Another loophole. So good.
I quizzed the guy I bought my TV from about the origins of these Boxing Day prices, as I said I assumed the price on the 1000 was being underwritten by Panasonic - he claims it wasn't, but resulted from competition between stores: one dropping their price, and the others following.
Interestingly, the data on PriceSpy does show some differences between stores as to when they dropped their prices to that low of $3398 - unsure if this supports his claim, reflects delays in PriceSpy's data, or simply shows when different retailers updated their websites or launched the offer...
