The PS5 unveiling definitely made me feel better about picking up an A9G/A8H over the CX. Ultimately would've loved an A9H to tick all the gaming boxes ( VRR etc) but don't have the patience to wait til September 2021.

Interesting reading of the FlatpanelsHD review on the A8H. While it sounds like their implementation of BFI doesn't take quite the hit to brightness that others experience, it sounds like their Dolby Vision implementation is a bit.. uh... interesting. It even caused quite the discussion between two big names over at AVS Forums.

It also appears there is no Master series this year, just a single 48" 'A9' model sometime later in the year, presumably around the PS5 launch and equipped with HDMI 2.1 features. I guess they think Sony fans are only gonna buy LCDs or small TVs.

Looks like some other exciting news, LG has apparently fixed the borked 9 series eARC PCM implementation.

Interesting read indeed. Now I'm back to square one on what to pick up. I'm more a sports person and watching the A9G in action on a football game opened my eyes as to how awful motion was on my current C7. I really wanted Master series standard motion handling but also planned to pick up the ps5 so was worried about the lack of HDMI 2.1 until seeing the unveiling.

The A9S 48" will not support Full HMDI 2.1 I'm told. It is basically an extension of the G series from 2019. The following years  H series will support 2.1,  but that year and a bit wait..

I would probably lean towards the A8H if you can either wait until the price is right or are prepared to pay more. Both the A9G and A8H use the X1 Ultimate processor, so picture processing quality should be pretty similar, bar any generational panel differences. The BFI feature (in theory) should improve motion processing with fast moving content like sports, so it would be interesting to see how it stacks up in person.

TheMarket (NLG) cancelled our order - and there's no stock anymore. I'm done venting to them... and not overly keen on paying $2500 for a 55" C9 display model with 3600 hours on it.

Luckily my colleague upgraded their TV recently so their older model came up available.. we shall use that until the next Black Friday/Boxing Day Sales and hopefully grab the CX then...

Just a heads up for anyone using an ext HDD with panasonic TV's. I was having issues with the TV seeing the HDD but not the files, there is scant info online from Panasonic about HDD usage and formats. Seeing as I have a MBP I was using exFAT format. Moved all the files on a 1TB ext to another backup HDD then formatted into NTFS, moved everything back using mounty for NTFS on MacOS.

TV now sees the files and plays them well, VERY Happy. End result is use NTFS. Now to get all my 4K/60 & DV content onto the HDD and enjoy :D

Interesting thread, i have been looking around for a new TV for a while. I have a 5 year old (i think!) Samsung, it is in the lounge, connected to Xbox and MiBox S.

I wouldn't mind getting a new 2019 or 2020 model that will last for a while, i see there is a big liking to LG's

Noel Lemming have a sale on now, would it be worth waiting until Boxing Day sales?

If you want a '9' series, grab one before they're all gone.

If you can wait, or are prepared to pay >$5k now (e.g. for a CX), then by all means. I would hope this year's 'CX' model would be low $4000 by Black Friday/Boxing Day, but there are no guarantees, given how much we get reamed compared to Aussie pricing.

The 65" C9 got as low as $3695 last year, but given the havoc that COVID-19 has wreaked on the market, it will be interesting to see how that plays outs this year. But yeah, even though we love to trade jabs with our continental cousins, there is no denying they are just a massive market compared to us.

Given LG Display are moving to divest themselves entirely of LCD and double-down on OLED, hopefully more production by them will help to bring the costs down. We probably won't feel the effects until 2021 at the earliest though.

The 55" CX is at $3,599 at Smiths City currently - best pricing compared to the closest other retailer at $4,368.

Might be taking a chance if Smith's City goes belly up.

So did Dick Smith at one point.

Keep an eye out for ex demo/shop floor models when new models are appearing or stores close, saved big bucks on an LG C8 a while back, one advantage being they are nicely run in. Can't beat the OLED for picture quality - added a Darbee processor to the Sky box feed - wow!

I thought I'd go this route, but unfortunately in my experience stores are basically selling the TVs at the sale price if not only $250 odd off, for ~3500 hours of use.
