I went for another look at TVs over the weekend and am confused again.

I really like the LG OS / Magic Remote, was very impressed with the Nano 80 screen as well. The only thing stopping me from getting it is the lack of HDMI 2.1 (only 2.0)

So now Im torn between the GX880 $2100, and waiting for the LG Nano 86 to drop in price to something similar (Black Friday maybe).

Which would you choose?

What, today or in the next 18 months, will you need HDMI 2.1 for?

I was thinking 2.1 would be needed for the PS5, but not 100 % sure

If you don't need it right away, then you have nothing to lose waiting until closer to Black Friday/Christmas/Boxing Day. Even if the sales aren't going to be as aggressive as previous years, it would be highly unlikely that there is no downwards price movement. Hopefully by then, we will also have some sort of indication about how the next-gen consoles are going to perform and how relevant HDMI 2.1 support is.

It is also quite unusual that we have had no release dates from either Sony or Microsoft this late in the game, so there is a non-zero chance they get pushed to next year though.

I hear a lot of people saying they need a new TV with HDMI 2.1 for the PS5, but the reality is they don't. If you really must by a TV now I understanding trying to future proof and buying a TV with HDMI 2.1 but some people seem to think they must upgrade the for the PS5.

Our current TVs will work perfectly fine with the PS5, admittedly some of the more advanced features require it but I can't see many game developers targeting 120FPS. I just think if you're upgrading because you think you need HDMI 2.1 then I would hold off for now. Many TV manufacturers are being very liberal with their HDMI 2.1 capable claims and only choosing to support part of the specification.

Looks like the Sony KD-65A8H is becoming more generally available. Watching the price fluctuations with interest. Looks like NL are tracking JB Hifi prices.

Looks like the Sony X9000H series is available for pre-order now from the Sony Store.

The 85" would look about right on my wall though...

I was really looking forward to these TVs But considering how Sony is really overcharging New Zealanders

for them it might be a good idea to wait for a price drop.

The 55inch TV is NZ$3200 here and in Australia they are charging AU$2000 for the same TV and some places are selling it for AU$1800.

The only just released them in New Zealand and in Australia this week.

Yarr, and it's all of the retailers here to be honest. I would never buy a TV in the first 6 months here.

Especially when I overheard a sales person at JB HiFi recently telling another sales person that a particular OLED TV cost them the same at release as it does at the lowest point in the pricing cycle.

It's a shame as these could be a great gaming TV, if they came in at just a slight premium of the outgoing models (the 55" X950g was sitting around $1800).

Well all of Sonys X8000H TVs dropped in price by around $500 within a month of releasing here.

So I'm hoping that if very few people buy the X9000H TVs they will drop their prices too.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Samsung Q70T? Starting to think it's the most likely candidate for a possible Xmas/New Year's sale bargain. Has the higher refresh rate but can't find much information about how well it will play with next-gen consoles yet.
