Shindig: Just seen LG C1 65" Noel Leeming Newmarket for $4999 in stock as well
Noels Dunedin offered me one for $4400 which was "staff price" I'm waiting until it's under 4k. It's a want not a need, and 4k is still a lot of money for a TV.
lol @ "staff price" believe me staff price is a LOT lower than that. As I posted 2 pages back Commercial price for 65" C1 is $3835.95 inc gst. Staff Price is lower still
Panasonic 65GZ1000, Onkyo RZ730, Atmos 5.1.2, AppleTV 4K, Nest Mini's, PS5, PS3, MacbookPro, iPad Pro, Apple watch SE2, iPhone 15+

Seen an X85J listed as 'new' at some places.
Looks to have the 200hz motionflow capability at a bit of a discount.
Anyone know the difference between the X90J and the X85J?
It's actually not a bad TV this time around; unlike previous years models, it has a direct lit VA panel with decent native contrast, but no local dimming to boost that unfortunately. Brightness in HDR is a bit meh, but it will still handle dark scenes better than any IPS panel. It also has a native 120hz panel with 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, but like other Sony models, VRR is "coming soon".
Comparing to the X90j, there actually isn't a lot of gap between them, as the FALD implementation on the X90j isn't fantastic with only 32 dimming zones. If the price delta was big enough, I reckon the X85j would be worth it.

For what I want it seems like a good get, but once you get to 65/75 the price blows out and you're basically looking at X90J money anyway.
"bring in mid-range TVs and up the premium on your current mid-range" seems to be a pretty lucrative pricing strategy in NZ these days.
Is the LG C1 still the go to TV for gaming with an Xbox Series X? I've been putting off buying a new TV and a Series X (not that you can easily get your hands on one in NZ at the moment) but now that Halo has a release date, I better start looking seriously.
Any other recommendations? I currently have a LG LED 55" which is about 6/7 years old so I'm not too sure on what I need to consider in a new TV.
I have an LG C1 that I use with Xbox Series X. It is absolutely the best gaming TV. 120Hz support with Dolby Vision, G Sync, Free Sync, Low latency support, HDR and regular firmware updates from LG.
How is screen burn / image retention on the LG OLED's?
If I'm playing for 5-6 hours a day with a HUD in one position... do you think the panel will be permanantly damaged in doing so?

Thanks for that! I'm trying to decide between the 55" and the 65". What size do you have?

Anything from the last couple of model years has been pretty good for uneven wear, and they are only getting better each year.
I wouldn't be too worried about it. Pixel wear is cumulative, so unless you are talking about an abnormal use case, like several thousand hours in the same game, or a particularly defective panel, I doubt you will ever notice any uneven wear in the lifetime of the TV. Also not using the max brightness modes (AKA Vivid) helps immensely too. LG's warranty is pretty good from what I hear too.
The RTINGS burn-in test is a few years old now, but it gives you an idea of what a 2017 model is capable of, let alone more recent models with better panels.

Newer OLED panels are a lot in better in the screen burn regard. LG has this feature enabled by default where it ever so slightly moves the pixels and I do not notice this to get annoyed via but this feature can be turned OFF.

I bought the 48" model since it is in my office and I also use this as my only monitor with the desktop and laptop along with the Xbox. I have a 65" Panasonic OLED from late 2017 that is my media room but the toddler is glued to that. The 48" is perfect for work, gaming and I am 900mm apart from it so it's not in my face either.
The LG C1 65" is down to $3995 at Harvey Normans, what's the likelihood of further discounts around black Friday?

The lowest I have seen the 65" C lineup go is $3695 in previous years, so it's not a far cry from that price.
For what it's worth, it looks like competing OLED models (Panasonic JZ1000, Sony A80) are sitting at that price too, so it could be part of the downwards trend as opposed to a limited time discount. Since the others have gotten on-board with HDMI 2.1, I would hope there is a bit more price competition this year as well too.
Really depends on whether you want to wait to potentially save a few Rutherfords I guess, bearing in mind current stock constraints. Boxing day is typically the peak savings.
On a side note, the 77" models are looking pretty good this year at $6998 for the Sony A80 or $6995 for the LG C1, compared to the $10k plus of previous years.
