While the GZ1000 is a damn good TV, with the imminent release of the XSX/PS5, I am aiming for a HDMI 2.1 TV minimum, so C9/CX for me.

Yeah, the PS5 *may* do 8K games, but 4K/60 are playable on HDMI 2.0 thats enough future proofing for me.

Fair enough, 8k is a solution looking for a problem currently. I guess while it remains to be seen if it lives long enough to see widespread adoption of 8k tvs, I am more interested to see if any games make use of the 4k HFR part of HDMI 2.1, not to mention VRR/Freesync and all those other 3 letter acronyms. If those two can't hack it, I also suspect we will see GPU's capable of this in the TV's lifetime as well and I have been meaning to upgrade mine soon.

Why we are fooking around with this instead of problem solved with DisplayPort though...

I've been patiently waiting for the LG 65 C9 to drop to mid-high 3's but it's taking it's sweet time doing so! Normally negotiating a price in person is easy and I usually expect about 20% off RRP, but that is quite hard to do via online sales channels.

Interesting that NL have the 65 E9 cheaper than the 65 C9 now. Perhaps worth considering.

Man I give up queueing for the NL online chats, they must be backlogged with late deliveries.

What was the price they were willing to budge to for the C9?

The C9 *should* be moving to clearance soon, now the CX and GX are coming through. The only fact that may limit that is the C9's have sold very well for LG so I'm not sure if there is too much excess stock to sell through.

I saw I think it was Noel Leeming had the 65" C9 for $3895 a couple of months ago.

You may be right.. The LG NZ website now has the BX/CX listed on their TV section.

HN now lists the C9 as 'clearance' but not so much clearance pricing attached to it.

Whilst browsing the interweb (god the aussies gets their C9/CX so much cheaper currently!!) I note a thread posted regarding the HDMI 2.1 on 2020 LG lineup - not sure if legitimate or not.

Legitimacy aside, it shouldn't make much difference in practice I wouldn't think, since the TV itself can only display a 4k120 4:4:4 10 bit signal maximum. So it would fall inline with the 40gbps threshold. It sucks that LG weren't upfront about it, but if true, really they are just making a cost saving for something the TV is not capable of.

Just another reason to look for those bargain bin C9's I guess, but given the mostly irrelevant differences between the c9/cx, I am wondering if we won't see many discounts for EOL.

Edit: Looks like it is confirmed

So after entering L2 I went into a few stores to reconfirm my thoughts about these TVs..

Mid range offerings also look great next to the OLED.... until they play the same content with any blacks showing, and it's not a competition at all.

I had the chance to see the GZ1000 next to the B9 and IMO the GZ has better PQ. If only the UI was comparable to WebOS.

Stock levels of the C9 is low from the 3 big retailers - HN wasn't even able to 'source' it anymore. Funnily enough the B9 wasn't marked as 'clearance' on their system.

All the retailers are getting stock of the "X" series LG OLEDs very soon, and the advisory price for the 65" CX is $6698.

The manager at the NL that I went to suggested I could have the 65" C9 display model for $300 cheaper than the current pricing of $4688.......... to which I said politely no to.

100% had the C9 65 for $4499, which I got Noel to price match, and should show up next week. I am very much looking forward to that.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

How is it our price is way way higher compared to $4,495 AUD at Harvey Norman Australia, I converted that price and it sits at just over 4800 nzd. No way is it fair to be more than 6000 nzd. I will wait for a sale.

Yes just came here to post 100% had the C9 65" for $4499. HN have them marked as clearance now at $4598. Stock as you say is low hence I don't think they will get much cheaper before the CX.

Still waiting on a 65GZ1000 Panasonic. Hopefully before the end of the month :D

Just got word through work that HN are about to implement some COVID driven price increases on electronics from 1st June 2020 as well, that could affect CX and HZ OLED prices

It is a dangerous strategy to pursue. Luxury items like TVs, particularly high end ones, are definitely in the ‘discretionary’ spending category. All these items would have been ordered and been on the water well before any virus related impacts so stock will be at ‘pre-virus’ levels. So the price increase smacks of trying to claw back 2 months of lost revenue. That will work if all the retailers do the same (possibly due to suppliers upping the wholesale price), but as soon as one blinks, they will all have to follow.

Smiths City have 11 C9s in stock apparently at $4598 (presumably can be price-matched to competitors) and are running a promo with a bonus $400 Smiths City giftcard. Which you will probably want to use straight away, given Smith City's future.

To be honest, given you could get a 65" C9 for ~$3700 over Boxing Day, I would be waiting for the price cuts on the 2020 TVs come November/December. Maybe this has been a trend for longer than I have been paying attention, but it seems to be the same as last year with the 65" C8, which only dropped to ~$4300 despite being cheaper than that previously, and the incoming C9 being priced somewhere in the $6k region. EOL doesn't seem to have the same pricing impact on TVs here. I guess retailers seem to be betting that people take one look at the $6k-ish CX and think the C9 is a bargain by comparison.

The CX is now listed on the Harvey Norman and 100 Percent sites, not yet on NL site. The 55 C9 has been offered at a good discount for the last week ($2888), and largely disappeared now, they cleared the E9 at around $4400, hoping they want to clear the 65 C9 at closer to the $4000 mark soon...time will tell!
