A few good deals around this weekend from the Afterpay Day sale. JB has the X90J 65" down to $2.3K, so I'll see what they can do for me in terms of that in a bigger size or bringing the X95J down closer to it.
Well that was a strange experience. Went to JB HiFi A. TV has a sticker price higher than the website. Got a pretty hard sell to boot, no flexibility or anything else indicated.
Went home really annoyed because I'd driven about 30km to get there and I wasn't impressed that the ticket price was higher than the website. Decided to chance my luck at closing time at JB Hifi B, about 30km in the other direction. Walk in, ask for specific TV, get told "I can probably get a cost + percentage price because we're stock-taking this evening" straight away. End up with free delivery also, making it $600 less than a store in the same chain wanted to sell it to me for.
So I bought an X90J. Now I have to pre-hook up HDMI 2.1 cables to the 2.1 slots so I don't have to take it off the wall if/when I get a PS5 or soundbar. Incidentally the first TV I've ever owned without component inputs. Delivered on Tuesday. Wall mount ordered.
Now I just need to get rid of my old faithful W Series Bravia from 2008 :( 10 Bit panel with beautiful rich colour.
So I'm starting to get an itchy wallet, looking to replace our in-the-house TV (a cruddy LG 55" LCD that I basically won't watch) with an OLED. Currently we have a Panasonic OLED (HZ100065) in the HT and we're really happy with that, so my default purchase would be the equivalent version unless there's a good reason to look elsewhere. To aid this decision, I'd appreciate any feedback...
Can we expect to see new models with 'must-have' features being released this year? Or is it worth waiting for some of the sales towards the end of the year to get current models at a better price? (I'm not in any real rush...)
In terms of the entry-level 55" models:
Thanks!
Having finally measured things, the current TV sits on a 1m wide cabinet, and it is the best place in the lounge for a TV
That means that anything over 55 inches would be way to large and my prefered size (55 inches) is 'slightly' too large, but will fit without any issues with being knocked over etc.
Between the major stores, I am considering the following models based on OLED or QLED technology: Sony A80J (might first pick, just because we have Sony already), Samsung QN90, Panasonic JX1000 and LG C1
My preference is to purchase at Noel Leeming; because I can pay them some more for delivery, installation and removal of the old TV. However it does limit me to a Samsung QN85 and the Sony (no Panasonic or LG)
Anyone know how you actually compare these TVs? Is there anything to look out for, or does it come down to what one you like the most?

Sorry??? LG and Panasonic are both available at Noel Leeming?
Panasonic 65GZ1000, Onkyo RZ730, Atmos 5.1.2, AppleTV 4K, Nest Mini's, PS5, PS3, MacbookPro, iPad Pro, Apple watch SE2, iPhone 15+

In terms of the entry-level 55" models:
- any thoughts on the cheapest 55", the Philips on special at PB Tech for $2k?
- can anyone report on meaningful differences between the Panasonic JZ980 vs the JZ1000?
- or the value of picking a Sony over Panasonic?
Thanks!
The biggest surprise is QD-OLED coming to market, so if they actually release here, we might see some price competition with OLEDs. Initial impressions are good, improving on OLED's weak points, like brightness and color gamut/volume.
The only thing with that Philips model is that it is from 2019, which makes that price a bit meh for me.
I would have said fixed vs swivel stand for the JZ980 vs JZ1000, but if there is a difference between the two, I'm not seeing it.
Both Sony and Panasonic have pretty good picture processing and now, HDMI support so it really comes down to on-the-day price and personal preference.
Just don't get the LG A series with it's gawd-awful 60hz panel

Not according to the website, in the size I am after.
I laughed when I went in yesterday and got the push on the Samsung QN85. Was $4400, now $2500 and the sale ends today (Noel Leeming). Pricespy shows it wasn't a $4400 TV, but sure enough today the price on NL's website is $4400. I can get the QN90 at JB for $2700

Hi all,
Our 2 y.o just threw one of his toys into the TV and has cracked it. Now we've got a pretty green line about 10cm wide. We're on the lookout for a new one, something on the low end of the market just in case he feels like the TV is a good target again. The Konic 75" at PB Tech ($1600) looks like it'll do the job for now, is it worth it for a couple years? Or is this an absolutely stay away kind of a deal? Anyone with any experience with one? We don't really watch TV much except on weekends. Most of the time it's the kids watching movies or me watching the league or UFC. Otherwise, looks like Harvey Norman has some panels this size for 2-3k.
thenine:At the Warehouse the Veon 75" for $1300 or the JVC at $1800 look value for money. For casual use I would buy cheap. A friend has the Veon and although it is popular to rubbish them it is fine. The JVC is a QLED so real VFM.

Thanks. Fine is good enough for our use case. Thanks for the other options. Delivery from PBTech to our place has been hit and miss over the years so it could be easier to head into the warehouse and load it in the ute.
X90J is up on the wall. Struggles a bit in our bright room but comes into its own as the sun goes down. Ran 2.1 cables into the appropriate HDMI ports and 2.0s into the rest, but all the cords and ports are accessible on the side with our wall mount, so no drama.
So far my only complaint is the grids for inputting passwords and login details for apps are a pain and few apps offer QR logins using a mobile device (but that's hardly Sony's fault). Overall, pretty happy! Now if I could just get the time to actually watch something like The Witcher that takes advantage of it, instead of hugely compressed sports coverage.

The Veon is difficult to get online. Available in-store here and there.
The Warehouse has a 5% off storewide offer going at the moment. Just need to sign up to MarketClub in the app (free).
JVC 75" $1799 - 5% off - $5 off $50 + $60 delivery = $1764 delivered / $1724 pickup.
