I saw them trickle by on trademe for a while, and then emailed him directly with an offer I think. Try wildash01 on the auction site. Whilst RRPs don't really mean much, I see he has PSB Alpha T1s for 299 (alleged RRP 999), Jamo c-91s for 349 (retail 799) etc.

I am in the same position - I don't want a 'real' home theatre setup because my home environment isn't well suited to wiring and clutter, and the Sonos Playbase is good enough for my purposes.

Everyone's situation is different and there is no need to get upset if your preferred solution doesn't suit everyone.

please explain... is it really that bad having a a wire or 2 running around a room? it can be concealed

Please explain why everyone in the world must have a 5.1 system. Why not a 9.2 system?

It's an audio system no one will die without surround speakers.

No one dies if they don't have a vast majority of things discussed on this website :-)

But, if you enjoy movies then you would probably want to experience them in the manner intended by the director of the movie.

They designed them to be enjoyed on a big screen and in surround sound.

That would probably explain peoples desire to have surround sound in their home.

Again, no one dies though... unless their internet speed is slow... that stuff kills people!!!!

Although sometimes they do. When we watched Rogue One they pretty much all died.
But the sound was amazing...

I think most people would like to enjoy the best of everything. It's inherently subjective what the best is for people's circumstances.

Berating someone for buying something that they chose to suit their circumstances is pretty weird.

All done.

Being delivered Monday, Pioneer 7.2 channel wifi AV receiver and Polk Speakers. Cost including install around 4500, so  a bit over budget.

Looks like has everything 6 HDMI 4k pass through inputs, built in chrome cast, Bluetooth.

Last one lasted around 20 years.

As why got to have it, I don't. Just it massively increases my enjoyment from watching movies on TV, find it a lot more immersive then just listening through TV speakers. Don't spend big bucks on cars, or overseas trips.

iphone 4 years plus old, computer 10 years plus old, that'll need replacing soon lol. I make stuff last as long as can.,

It's your money, it's your enjoyment, you certainly don't need to justify what you buy to anyone here.

Enjoy your new setup, I'm envious :)

Yes, my HT setup has lasted 20 years, except for upgrading

the screen

the projector

the HT receiver

the speakers

the Bluray player

the AppleTV (to 4K)

Congratulations!  You will not regret that decision.  If someone else is doing the install, make sure that they take the time to run the MCAC calibration.  This feature is likely present on your Pioneer receiver.  Makes a big difference.

Thanks they did the MCAC.
Old receiver had to put speaker distances in manually.

First night with it, trying to work out best listening modes.
YouTube 2 channel source if music surround and music type?

If 5.1 source from memory auto surround, EXT, direct, pure direct.
The above only give left and right speakers for YouTube music, but get all speakers for live TV, Netflix so maybe need to change sound mode depending on source?

The HDMI ARC works so looks like fault was with the blue-ray surround ARC and not the TV phew.

I’ll have fun playing with it tonight.

Just googled and found CEC needs to be enabled on both TV and receiver for ARC to work, so I have a go setting blue ray one up with TV in another room.

Looks like my fault that the ARC didn’t work on old set up.

Check with the manual on some of those surround modes.  It's been a looong time since I used a Pioneer receiver.  But, I think the direct or pure direct may bypass tone controls and/or the EQ applied via the MCAC calibration.  In this case you likely want to avoid it (for HT purposes @ least).  Another thought.  You also have all new speakers.  They will break in over time and their tonal balance will slowly change as a result.  Not that you need to do anything in particular.  But, once you have a good number or hours on them... re-run the MCAC calibration as it will likely assign different EQ values once the speakers are broken in a bit.
