I see 7077 RC1 is all the rage now.  Just when you thought you were up to date.

Can anyone tell me the main difference between the 32 and 64 bit versions.  I have a fairly high spec'd machine and have been considering the 64 bit version, but have been very happy on 32.
Any issues with drivers, is it better perfomance etc.

Most importanly, can I upgrade from 32 to 64 or is it a reinstall.

Anyone tried 7077?  any noticable changes?

You'll have to reinstall to change from 32 bit to 64 bit.

32 bit OS's can only access or address under 4GB of ram (usually around 3 GB in practice because system devices take up memory address space)

You can read more about 64 bit here:

Windows 7 Up to Build 7078 and Build 7079

Windows 7 build 7077 is out in the wild there is also talk of Windows 7 Build 7105 having already been compiled over in Redmond. Now Wzor {most trusted source} confirms that Microsoft passed the developement over build 7078 to build 7079. Windows 7 Build 7079 has 6.1.7079.0.090407-1902 as the complete build string according to Wzor. The string indicates that the milestone was built on April 7, 2009. But at the same time,Wzor reporting that MS also compiled Windows 7 Build 6.1.7105.0.winmain.090404-1235 on April 4, 2009. Sources says Build 7077 is the Pre RC build and with some modifications it’ll we released as RC release in May. It appears that isn’t the case and Microsoft has built 7078.0.090406-1758 and 7079.0.090407-1902 over the last few days.

This is the most controversial issue if build 7077 is pre RC and build 7105 is compiled then why microsoft is still playing with build 7078 and 7079. Build 7077 is leaked in this week and the next major leak will be appear in last week of April or in first half of May when Microsoft is ready to release the first RC release. As you know Build 71XX will be the next leak maybe within this week. The point to be noticed is that  Windows 7 RC designed to block upgrades from Beta Build 7000 and pre-RC development milestones to full RC. means you have to make a clean install instead of upgrading. Don’t worry Microsoft already showed the way to bypass the check for pre-release upgrade .

You are kidding....I just downloaded 7077 yesterday and havent even had a chance to install it yet. Is there any site that has version info on it, ie what each subsequent build has different or fixed?

Word. I was thinking of downloading 7077 yesterday and thought "Well, the RC is meant to be out this month anyway", which will probably bring more significant changes than 7077.

from what i can gather 7105 is just 7077 but RC. I think I will wait until the official RC comes out. I was dual booting Win 7 7068 and Vista Ultimate but have now upgraded my Vista partition to 7077 and its more buggy than my 7068. Not sure whether its the build or because its not a clean install although its a very recent install of vista that i upgraded which was working well.  Biggest issue I have is changing channels between TV3 & the others in HD, Internet explorer crashing constantly and getting the blue screen because of my graphic driver...arrrgh

Question (possibly slightly off topic)

I have a laptop with Win7 installed and I want to buy a USB device that I can plug a Satellite dish into.  The computer shop I just visited told they don't exist or at least not locally.  Seems unlikely...

Anyway can anyone recommend a good one and where to buy from.

In addition... It would be nice to get sky on the laptop, as I have a sky subscription.  I am a little in the dark about this, but from what I have read I will need a usb card reader etc.  It would rock if there was a USB DVB-S device that had a card reader built it.

Can someone give me a heads up on this - appreciated

As you said, nothing to do with Windows 7 or H.264 support, but you could take a look at these:

It would be better to ask any further questions over on the Freeview (DVB-T/DVB-S) forum

All this speculation is very confusing.  It is not clear whether 5 May will be the public release date, Technet subscriber release date or Partner release date.  That's if 5 May is a release date at all.

I've seen on other sites where Technet subscribers have had conversations via the MS concierge service about the RC release date and have been told 15 May...

RC has been leaked and I have downloaded & burned the ISO, unfortunately heading out for the night so the install will happen in the morning. Not hard to find, just google as I dont think posting a link here is allowed.
