Movieman:

Grain is a highly debated subject among movie lovers.

Normally I would agree, but the criticism of Love Actually does appear to be valid. I'm not too familiar with the film so I have no idea how zoomed in this particular image is, but it looks pretty bad to me. It's a fairly long movie and they've cut the bitrate to fit on a 50GB disk.

Apparently my copies of Dial of Destiny and Titanic are coming on Tuesday, so I'll be able to have a look, but I'm far from a connoisseur...

I also wonder what the Titanic critics would be saying if this 4K version actually was the original version.

If you are like me and don't actually look for problems, I think you will be pleased with both of those titles.

Another Boutique label of note is Arrow Video. Originally UK based only, they now have a US website. The UK branch ship directly to NZ, but I couldn't find any shipping info from the US. Their international shipping list included almost every other country, so maybe its just an oversight. The websites remove sold out titles from their inventory, but sometimes they are still available from one of the Amazon websites.

Some of the films they have released on 4K Ultra HD include: Robocop, True Romance, The Last Starfighter, An American Werewolf in London, Hugo, Barbarella, Witness, Carlito's Way, Weird Science, Tremors and Wild Things to mention just a few. Upcoming releases will be The Warriors, Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer. Carrie (1976) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers Several titles have had a SteelBook release complimenting the Standard edition.

If you buy from the UK website they have a loyalty program that offers reward points when you buy a title directly.

Thanks again Movieman!

After reading your post, I promptly had a look at the Arrow (UK) website and bought 4 titles (on sale).

Sadly, Robocop 4k, An American Werewolf in London 4k (and others) are long gone.

Will keep an eye on this website for sure.

Cheers!

I trust you are aware that the version of Dune listed here is the 1984 David Lynch version,

NOT the 2021 Denis Villeneuve one

Apparently December 30th is just a "placeholder" release date. It hasn't actually been finalized yet.

Amazon AU is a frustrating way to buy/search for 4K bargains. They no longer stock Australian 4K releases and they act like a middle man for the US, UK and some European Amazon's. Its really good for collector's who are looking for films that are not available in Australasia and many bargains can be had.

The problem that I have, is that you need to check everyday. Titles come and go at the blink of an eye. One instance is that I added the UK release of The Fifth Element (the UK Studio Canal edition is the one to get apparently) to my wish list two days ago as it was down to AU$28; I would have bought it immediately, but I couldn't find enough titles to get free shipping which would have cost me AU$23 for that one title, effectively taking away the saving that I would have made. Today I decided once again to try and find enough titles to get the free shipping. The Fifth Element has gone back up to AU$70. Offsetting that is the US 3-Movie set of The Equalizer 1-3 has dropped from AU$119 to AU$70 with free shipping. There are other titles at AU$20 or less, but I have most of them.

Oh, the joys of being a physical media collector 😁 (That Equalizer set has my credit card shrinking with fear πŸ˜‚)

Some 4K Ultra HD Price Examples for today:

Inglourious Basterds • AU$18.69

The Goonies • AU$21.94

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent • AU$19.48

Everything Everywhere All at Once • AU$20.07

Ambulance: Collector's Edition • AU$19.54

Nobody • AU$24.22

Hickock • AU$22.74

Field of Dreams • AU$17.84

and several more titles between AU$25/AU$30

I just found out that we didn't get a 4K Ultra HD release for The Equalizer (2014) in this part of the world; just a Blu-ray and DVD. This explains why my iTunes digital copy is only 1080p.

In the above post, I stated that the US 3-Movie Collection was AU$70. Its actually the UK 3-Movie Collection at AU$70 and its beginning to reel me in 😬

EDIT: I bought the UK set 😁
