Goosey:

Can you chromecast or airplay a web browser (sky go), tab to the said respective devices ?
- tried this on an old Apple TV and the sounds there….but picture blocked.  On chromecast it’s jittery but I think it’s my tv or network….

We've had a similar discussion in here recently. SkyGo is not a product that is meant to be watched on a TV, that's why you won't find a built in app on your TV or streaming device and why the casting / airplay experience is poor. It is designed as a product to allow Sky subscribers to watch their content on the go.

This sounds like an excellent reason to buy a Playstation 5 for the spare room, will cover all your needs (except the SkyGo app, there is a Sky Sport one, but you have to pay for that regardless of whether you are a current subscriber or not). We have Apple TV's connected to all our TVs and highly recommend them. Otherwise Google Chrome and the other solutions mentioned above will work fine.

Wireless HDMI is a thing, and put it from your existing sky box. Wont let you watch something different from the other TV, but its a sure fire way to get that content onto that TV.

And how to get the remote to work from the room the Skybox isn't in?

Infrared remote repeater (there are surely a bunch of other, maybe cheaper options). Hardwired versions are also available - the receiver doesn't necessarily need to be right on the TV.

... and I'm going to need an HDMI splitter right?

MySky box >> Splitter >> TV + wireless HDMI transmitter.

Can splitters output to both "displays" simultaneously? or they are more like a switch, one or the other?

I had a similar issue with an older non-smart guest room TV, no aerieal/satellite feed installed or practicable. I second the recommendation for a Chromecast, I got one of the 1080p ones with a remote on sale for $49 and it works really well.

Skygo casts to it just fine.

For the terrestrial channels, I have the plugins installed on my jellyfin server that grab the online streams, which I can then view as live TV on the chromecast. That works, but the quality is pretty poor (due to the quality of the streams, not my setup, but I watch less than an hour of Freeview a month so don't really care). You could watch the streams through the relevent apps, do what I did with a media server, or look at another solution like a HD Homerun with TV Headend installed somewhere else on your network where there is an aerial.

I think I have almost everything I need now.

Wireless HDMI transmitters

IR repeater

HDMI splitter

All I need now is an actual TV. 😀

Hoping to pick up a cheapish 32" telly in the Black Friday sales.

An extra Sky remote would be good too but I'm guessing you cant just pick those up from anywhere. Not a biggie though.

You can buy Sky Remotes through Sky - $10 for a MySky remote, or $30 for the new skybox remote:

Currently have a PG OLED C8 from 2018, with only power and internet (no aerials, broadcast television belongs to history). All apps still work and get updated occasionally. It just depends on what you buy.

Nvidia shield is the best option for a "set top box" though

LG?

I have a 2019 LG C9 (admittedly a year younger than yours). It is running in exactly the same configuration as yours including WiFi - and is all working perfectly.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Sky claims they support Chromecast but it simply doesn't see mine at all. The only app I have with this problem...

Best solution I've found to this considerable annoyance is Kodi and two Matt Huisman addons - one to allow you to watch Sky Go and one (IPTV Merge) to merge the Sky channels into the main Kodi EPG.

I have a single EPG combining OTA TV from my HDHomerun and the Sky Go channels. Sky on the TV and the proper content browsing experience that Sky tries to prevent.

and just to add I have a 2017 LG which is also working just fine (although getting a little slow).  Of course as a certified geek I also have Apple TV, chrome tv, xbox series x and PS5 attacehed to it :)
