What about this TV

It has a DVI input but will that be the same as HDMI? Or do I still want to use HDMI to HDMI for the Blueray formats I want to be able to watch? I don't care which I have to use as long as the 1:1 pixel mapping will work on this TV through HDMI....

Sorry mate, have no experience with the Sharps.

Here's the official thread on the AVS forums.

It looks ok, though the contrast ratio is a little low. Is a full 1080p set so will be an upgrade from the Visio. Didn't read many of the posts in the thread but noticed a few having problems calibrating the sets. Allot saying the love the screen though.

Also an issue, some sets have a backlighting issue. If you go with this set, play a black test pattern in a dark room and make sure the black is uniformed across the screen i.e. no bright areas (called clouding). If you do, then replace it straight away.

Sorry RunAway, I can't really help you in the selection except to say the AVS LCD forum is a very good place to find out about a model you're interested in.

Be very wary of manufacturer claims. Some will say they do 1:1 but you may find it can only do that over a certain connection type (i.e. VGA) or if they do it over the connection you want they may have un-disableable post-processing on that connection (i.e. some LG models allow 1:1 on HDMI but they automatically apply some image processing thinking you're watching a movie and causing the image to become un-sharp).

So if you find a TV that meets your needs, go to the forum above and check what users of those TVs say. They're a much better gauge on whether the TV is a good choice. Google is not always your friend on this either. You'll get allot of uninformed posts. AVS has allot of experienced users so you'll at least get some good advice along with the bad :).

Ok, I got the Sharp...Very nice!! I just wish it had larger resolution..The icons on this 37" is as small as the ones on my 17" CRT..Is there anyway I can make things just a little larger? It seems to only do good in 1920x1080...Its really too small...

You definitely want to stay in it's native res.

Nearly every GUI desktop (Windows or Linux) has a way to increase both the icon and text sizes.

i.e. under XP right click on your desktop, go to Properties, Appearance, Advanced, choose Icon in the Item dropdown and you'll be able to change the icon and icon text sizes.

Vista is right click on desktop, go to Personalise, Windows Color and Appearance, Advamced, choose Icon in the Item dropdown and you'll be able to change the icon and icon text sizes OR right click on desktop, View, Large Icons (but this doesn't change the text size).

Just posted on you other thread about using USA sites, especially for items like TVs. USA use 60hz NTSC signal & ATSC MPEG2 HD formats.

The models over there will be nothing like what is available here with our TVs using 50-60hz PAL signal & H.264 MP4 HD broadcasting.

Please, save yourself time & effort, do your research where you're buying

When I posted, was unaware of his country of residence.

Also Runaway, again look at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=26 as there is lot of info about calibrating US TVs to HTPCs & such. The thread on building an HTPC HD may be of particular interest.

Seeing as you live in USA. One other programme you will want is AnyDVDHD. One reason is it disables any non-HDCP hardware downsampling, so it will still playback in full 1080p.

Be aware they recently changed their licence policy from free updates to an annual one.

I didn't mention it before because of its cost, but paying US$ definitely will minimise the cost.
