Yes the 65W part was the one I wanted originally, but I had a lot of trouble tracking one down and had to go with the 95W one instead. I'm very happy with the case though, it looks like I got one of the last ones with a VFD instead of the newer LCD ones, I very much prefer the old-school look of the VFD.

Total draw at the socket is just under 70W idling and 130 when going flat tack with both hard disks spun up. The power supply fan doesn't seem to have a lot of work to do on mine.

I'll check out those Scythe fans, they sound like the business - 10dBA is amazing.

You can always overclock the HT slightly, i'm running at 1100Mhz instead of the 1000Mhz

Some suggestions on getting live hdtv working on my 780G would be most appreciated

Issues
Mediaportal is slow to start locks up and does not recognise my Hauppauge 900H
I'm not getting a picture on channels 4 and above in Windows Media Center (Windows 7)

Have installed PowerDVD9 which improved live TV 1,2 or 3 in WMC

For the MediaPortal problems your best bet for a solution is to go to the MP forums - http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/ - make sure you read up on how to report a problem, making sure to include log files. I had a quick look and some people have been having problems with the analogue scanning with the 900h, but with the latest drivers from the Hauppauge site DVB-T seems to work with Windows7.

Keep in mind that the PowerDVD9 codecs won't work with MediaPortal, you'll need an older version of PowerDVD8 or 7.

Does the WinTV software that came with your tuner work? (I have no idea if it's supported by Windows 7)

That's not what I'm seeing here, I've got PDVD9 installed (and no other version of Power-Anything) and MediaPortal certainly thinks it's using the codecs for H.264 playback.

Strange, when I upgraded to 9 the codecs disappeared and from the reading I did on it on the MP forums anything newer than PowerDVD8 Build 2217aU isn't able to be used by MediaPortal, although I believe some people have got it working with manual registration of the files, but I haven't put much effort into it since PDVD8 works fine for me.

No it didn't recognise my tuner and caused me to have no reception (sound or video) in WMC.
Uninstalled it then installed PowerDVD9.

Problem in WMC on channels 4 and above is no or green blocky video but do get sound

Another suggestion (Bios)

Overclock the onboard GPU and increase the HT frequency for shared memory
Default VGA core = 500, I run it @ 600Mhz
Default HT is 1000Mhz (FSB 200Mhz x 5), I run it @ 1200Mhz (FSB 220Mhz x 5)
I also lower the CPU multiplier, so my CPU runs at the same speed, as i don't need any more cpu power.

Also you should set the UMA for onboard memory to 512mb (It's set to auto as default)

PS - Use these settings at your own risk, i find it helps with onboard hardware acceleration of 1080i

Did you measure how much of a performance boost you got out of those settings? I'm running my system at stock at the moment. I have UMA at auto and all seems fine.

BTW, I took your advice and changed the refresh to 50Hz for PAL.

Is there a trick to setting 50Hz? I gave it a shot and promptly lost the ability to choose the correct res for my TV (Sony at 1360x768). I tried a few times but no joy. This is with Catalyst 9.4, IIRC.

does your tv support 1360x768 @ 50hz

My connection is via HDMI to my TV, and I run at 720p res. For this I had two options 50Hz or 60Hz. Originally this was 60Hz refresh, and I didn't really notice visual issues, but 50Hz does seem to match our PAL transmissions.

720p res seems to be the best option via HDMI, when I tried to set 1360x768, the result was terrible. I do run 1360x768 with no problem via the VGA connector.

I have made a few software adjustments over the weekend.

Vista 32 -> SP2
Catalyst -> revert to latest drivers from Gigabyte. 9.5 was working fine though.
Mediaportal 1.0.2 (using only PCM codecs from Powercinema 6, I have not installed MPC decoder)

All seems to be working well.

Couldn't resist.

Overclocked FSB from 200 to 224, this raises CPU from 2.5GHz to 2.8GHz and allows my RAM to run at the full 400MHz for DDR2800. The 400MHz ram speed is really what I wanted to achieve, at 2.5G it was down at 357MHz or so.

Also overclocked HD3200 from 500MHz to 600MHz per kiwijunglist

Temps are still ridiculously low, under around 35C.

Friend wants me to overclock the sideport ram as well... Not so sure about that one.
