The new Panasonic's sound awesome, but the missus is impatient and I dont think i could convince her to wait.lol.

In that case I'd still go a PZ panny over a series 6 samsung anyday of the week, 2500 is a good deal for a 42 PZ imho :) . If the series 9 was in the same financial ballpark of course my answer would be different :) .
Hoping for an S10 46" panny personnally, if they bring it out here...

We picked up the PX 42 yesturday and woaahhh. Its super cool! Watch Ghost Rider last night, and for first time watching of broadcast HD was impressed. As suggested in other threads I have the contrast down low for now, and will tune or whatever its called eventually. The SQ is ok, but now i need a surround sound system to match it. Was considering just looking for a panasonic system to match, but more reserach is requiring. Thanks for the comments all.

Good stuff :)

On another note was just down at JB browsing and asked what models panny are bringing to NZ. I saw all the S10s are coming (inc the 46"), and the 42 and 50 G10s, not the 46" G10 though like they have in Oz. Oh and plenty of X series non-full hd ones which is no shock.

Went to Harvey Norman sale today.......bit the bullet and got three 50" Panasonic PY800's (one for father-in-law, two for us). Paid $2414 each. They only had 3 left after my purchase.

Also gave me 33% discount on wall mount bracket.

All set for new home....all I need now is a Freeview HD box.

Also noted the G10's are now in store (at Farmers anyway)

Wow that's a good price. Which branch of HN did you buy from? I'm tempted to get down there now.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

Great news and pricing, you won't be disappointed. You gotta get yourself a Bluray player as well to get the full benefit of the panel ( if you haven't already ) Nice one.

Phoned my local branch (North Shore) and they'd all gone. Called Mt Wellington, and great news, they have one left, and same price as you got. I owe you a beer mate! I had a look at the PY800 and PZ850 side by side in the weekend, and thought they were very close, and since I already have Sky HDi and Vantage Freeview HD PVR, it's a waste of money getting the PZ.

Just got back from HN Mt Wellington, and couldn't be happier. $2414 for the PY800 has to be the bargain of the century, and they even took VISA at that price. Best prices I could get over the weekend were $3K at the Appliance Shed (they don't seem as cheap these days) or a shop demo model at Magness Benrow Mairangi Bay for $2750. JB don't have any, so I guess it's last chance at HN branches now. I've been told that all the new HD models sold in NZ will have Freeview built-in and pricing will be high at first release. Looks like our old Panny 42" at the repair shop is headed out to pasture.

I am looking at replacing our Pioneer 50" Plasma with Panasonic TH-58PZ850 58" Full HD Freeview Integrated Plasma Flatscreen

I would like to see it in action first but none of the retailers here have one. Has anyone here seen one set up? If so what were your impressions.

My impression when I last saw one was it was awesome with a 1080p source (Blu-Ray). The freeview demo channel (HD) looked good as well but when switched to a channel showing upscaled SD broadcast, it did its best but scaling to that size made the picture quite 'soft'.

SD will always either be soft compared to HD on the same panel - the only other option is the aweful edge enhancement that passes as upscaling on some channels and dvd players.

unboxed the first of our 50" PY800's today. Seems to be busted! Has a whole row of dead pixels
