As I mentioned in a previous thread I am building a shuttle-based HTPC. Unfortunately, but choice of video card - the Palit 9400 GT Silent seems to be out of stock everywhere, with no ETA on availability.

So I am searching for an alternative.

Ideally, I'd like a fanless card. But it looks as if this is impossible, as I am unable to find any single slot cards that match my criteria... which are:

1. Fanless
2. Geforce 9400 GT or better
3. Single width PCI-E

I'm willing to compromise on criteria 1 (perhaps a card with a fairly quiet fan).

Can anyone help? I'm really running out of ideas.

Hi Nigel

This is the card I had in my Shuttle HTPC:

This card is getting on a bit now, but like you say, it MUST be fanless...

If you get stuck and need to tide you over I have this card sitting here doing nothing - let me know.

My HTPC - Case Antec Fusion Remote, MOBO Intel DH67BLB3, CPU Intel Core i5-2400S 2.5 GHz, RAM 8GB  DDR3 1333, HDD 120Gig Corsair Force Series 3 SSD system | WD Caviar Black 2TB data, Tuners Black Gold BGT3595 dual DVB-S/S2, dual DVB-T, Video nVIDIA GeForce GT 520, 1024MB, Sound Intel® High Definition Audio (onboard), OS Windows 7 x64

I had the old Asus 7600GS silent in my shuttle before the 8600GTS and then now the 4650 came along.

It was a good card and capable of H264 playback/pureview but i'm not sure if it's compatible with NZs Freeview as I couldn't find it in the list here

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback and the kind offer. I ended up going with:

Leadtek WinFast PX9500 GT, HDMI Video Card, GeForce 9500 GT, 512MB, DDR2, PCIe-16, TV out, DVI, HDTV, Low profile

Unfortunately it does have a fan, but I'm hoping that HD decoding is reasonably easy for work it, and it stays fairly quiet.

Hi there - grateful if you can post re the noise of this card when you get it set up and get a moment. I'm looking at it myself but have a few reservations about the noise.

The noise isn't too bad. It's certainly not silent.

But it's quieter than the old skool Pentium 4 unit I had before. But this is a rather poor comparison.
